Hi everyone,

I had my reversal back in July. It was my friend's birthday last night and she loves mexican food. I guess after a few margaritas I didn't realize how spicy the food was. I woke up this morning feeling fine but around noon experienced these terrible rectal spasms. I felt like my bottom was going to explode and there is this terrible burning sensation when I go to the bathroom. I went at least 12x today. Has anyone else experienced these same symptoms and please let me know what you did. I had no choice but to take 2 percs and try to lay down because I think the only thing that will work is sleep.

Thanks so much!

Chrissey

I have had this plenty of times but learned my lesson that the risk is definitely not worth the reward. You're probably gonna just have to ride it out until all that spicy food finds its way out. Pepto Bismal might help calm it down a little. I would make sure you are using cream to put on the skin after every time you use the bathroom to protect you from the next time around. Make sure you are not wiping to hard if you could pat instead of wipe that would be ideal and use alcohol free baby wipes. Once you get butt burn its tough to stop it you just have to make sure youre taking the proper steps to protect the skin around your anus. Its a matter of learning from our experiences. You might also be getting the rectal spasms because your pouch is irritated right now. Good Luck you might want to lay off the Mexican for a while until you are a little further down the road with your pouch.

Hi, I am about 3months out from the surgery and I am still having these issues, is this normal? Is this a forever thing going back in forth wacthing everything that goes in my mouth that will cause the butt burn. It is my biggest struggle right now to where my bottum is bleading. I try not to go to crazy with food until I can figure things out. I too enjoy a glass of wine from time to time but not now it stings so bad when it comes out its not even worth it to me. Again will this eventually go away or am I going to have to deal with this the rest of my life. Any comments would be appreciated!!!

What works for me is to take about a foot of toilet paper and fold it up into a "pad" and just take one slow firm swipe.

I use Charmin toilet paper (the quilted kind). I have not had butt burn since about 3 months post take-down.

I use Oil of Olay body wash in the shower to clean the area really good.

I am on no special diet. I pretty much eat and drink what I want. I still occasionally have very runny stools (like water), but I no longer have butt burn. When my pouch does not like what I just ate - I just call it my "angry pouch".

I have followed a fellow poucher's strategy in dealing with foods/drinks you love but don't love you....after J-pouch takedown. He always knew when he was going to eat or drink one of those culprit foods/drinks. Prior to eating/drinking them he would cover his anus (inside and out) with a barrier cream and each time he used the toilet for a B.M. he would use more of the cream. He did this until the culprit foods/drinks passed all the way out of him. Well, it works for me. I eat and drink everything I just am prepared for the worst!

Well I still have the butt burn, why? I use a barrier the most recent one I have been using is a mixture of stoma adhesive and aquaphore, I know crazy it really takes the burn away but does not heal the burn. this copound I am using does not have a name. My mother is an RN and she spoke to one of the docs and thats what they came up with. Also the hospital that she works at has a pharmacy and that is how I was able to get it. I wish I knew how other people could get it because although the butt burn is present, you dont feel the burn. Its rather expensive though its like pill bottle size and its 30.00 I figure when anyone is experiencing butt burn non stop 24/7 I would pay 100.00 if it worked cause I practically lose my mind when it happens. What I want to know is what heals the burn? Is it over the counter or is it a RX from your MD? Also I am Having alot of gas, I mean alot. I am still learning is it a bowel movement or is it gas! Either way I still go to the bathroom because sometimes its both. Omgosh though it is so loud, and seems to last a long time. This is something new that just started a couple days ago. Is this normal? Is it the food I am eating? I have ate the same stuff since I left the hospital! I sware everyday its something different or new to deal with, I never imagined it would be this hard! I am 3 months out from finishing the surgery and let me tell ya its been an adventure. Any advice or input would surely be appreciated thank you in advance LJK

Maybe you have a touch of pouchitis ? I know when I get super gassy and have frequent stools with burn, I call my surgeon for some Flagyl. He usually prescribes for 10 days and I get everything straightened out. Then, I try to take a probiotic, such as Culturelle, for a couple of weeks after .

For the burn, try frequent sitz baths. I also used Maloxx on tp while wiping, followed by liberal amounts of Calmoseptine. Don't be afraid to put the Calmoseptine a little inside anal opening.

Hope you feel better !
