I need some support. I am 10 days post-op from my surgery and ended up in ER yesterday because I was dizzy and going 15-20 times in 24 hour period. the er doc didn't know much about jpouch so he called my surgeon who over the phone diagnosed me with pouchitis and told him to give me flagyl. I have had 18 bm's since midnight last night. I am at my wit's end. They didn't do any tests on me and gave me two bags of iv fluids for dehydration. if I had pouchitis, shouldn't the flagyl have worked by now. They tell me to keep fluids up but I feel like I am fighting a losing battle. I am starting to have regret and can't go on like this. how can I get pouchitis in a brand new pouch?

Been there done that. I ha dit immediately after takedown but it took one month for a doc to listen and help me.

You may need something more potent than flagyl. They will probably give you cipro next. Also did they scope you. You could also have cuffitis which would only be seen on scoping. Also cdiff test.
hope this gets resloved quickly for you.

Flagyl should work pretty quickly. Since you are so soon out of surgery can you make a trip back to your surgeon. Seems you need some focused skilled medical attention.

and unfortunately you found out the hard way, ers are not great place for jpouchers. Always have to educate them on the different anatomy. And pretty useless at doing anything other than giving iv hydration.

I've had pouchitis since my take down in March. Initially I was put on cipro and flagyl. It turns out I have tendon problems probably due to the cipro so I stopped that. I have also taken augmentin. In addition I've tried canasa and rowasa. I have been tested for cdiff. There is a certain percentage of jpouchers who have chronic pouchitis. I think I may be one. I did have cuffitis as well. Since March I've had two sigmoidoscopies confirming the cuffitis and pouchitis.
