Some of you know that I have been having spasms in the area of my K-pouch for the past 12-14 days. My surgeon has told me to get a CT scan - but I have put it off as I have no real symptoms of a partial obstruction. No pain. No cramps. No nausea and the pouch is behaving normally. Good output each time I intubate. Just these pesky spasms.
However, a nurse with a K-pouch, says she worked in the ER of a hospital. When someone came in with a partial obstruction, they would administer Zantac through an IV. They seemed to get good results most of the time.
So, a couple of days ago, I began taking two Zantacs per day. And guess what? My spasms have darned near disappeared. If this trend continues, I don't think I will need to get the CT scan.
The reason the Zantac seems to work is that this med speeds up the peristalsis. Keep your fingers crossed. Hopefully, you can soon call me 'The Ex Spas'!
