Dear Community,

This is urgent:

Background: I am a 23 year old with a J-pouch, after UC surgery 3 years ago. Everything's been fine since, except occasional diarrhoea.

about 10 hours ago I ate a whole papaya and have had tummy cramps ever since. I havn't had the urge to go potty once since, although I did pass a tiny bit of gas. A tiny bit of contents came out as well, which I knew (dont ask how) is papaya.

Has anyone else ever been so constipated, and what are the chances of a blockage in your opinion? Has anyone had a block with a J-pouch (no stoma).

Much appreciated, your answer will help me decide to get on a plane back to my hospital ASAP (because I know blockages can be bad).

Yours,
Essam

I don't think you are constipated, I think you have a partial blockage. Try walking it off but if it gets worse or the pain intensifies and you have a pulsating, knotted up type pain which comes and goes in intervals, get to the emergency room of the nearest hospital. However, I have had partial blockages that resolved on their own through the simple expedient of walking around.

Good luck.

Just an update for future readers:

I passed the stool about 16 hours after my last meal finally, to my relief.
I continued to have cramps for 5 days afterwards, though each day was better than the last.
Note that I ate very small amounts of food each meal, so as not to overload my bowels. I am now 100% fit again, many thanks to above members Smiler
