Please dont delete as I am having an urgent need for opinion. I am 11 days out of surgery for j pouch revision. Im having bad cramps in my stomach every few minutes. We seem to think its an obstruction. Please tell me what you guys do to get rid of them on their own and if not, what the hospital will do for me? THanks, Joe

Here are some things I have tried:
Are you passing anything? If so, then that's a good sign.
I had to go to the emergency room a few months ago because it was so bad and I thought I might cause damage. They gave me a CT-Scan and I had to have things go through both ends. All of a sudden, whatever was stuck came free. The scan didn't show anything, but the prep unblocked me.
I hope you feel better.
- Grape juice
Heating pad
Really hot bath and then in the bath bring my knees to my chest

Dib,
Are you throwing up? Fever? Chills? Along with the cramping those are good indicators of obstructions or ileus (your gut kind of goes to sleep)...you need to walk, walk, walk...keep moving as much as possible, stretch lightly, bounce up and down on the balls of your feet, do yoga deep breathing and stretching...plus the above suggestions including hot green tea (or any kind you like), broth if it will stay down, heating pads and gently massaging your abdomen with hot oil (olive is fine) on your hands...
24hrs+ if nothing is going through or you are throwing up non-stop, head strait to the local ER and take your medical records with you...if not write it all down before you get there...Things can get really confusing once you arrive and they often tend not to listen...
Good luck and keep us posted

No throwing up or fever , but I havent ate today. It is so bizarree how it just comes every few minutes and wont stop. How much longer before I should go to the hospital? What could they possibly do for a partial blockage?
Is there any output? When I had my blockages anything that I would put into my mouth would start waves of 'contractions' which would end with me throwing up my guts for 5 mins...I had 0 output and could not swallow a drop of anything, 0 fever but full out dehydrations and exhaustion...I gave up after 24hrs and had myself driven to ER (but I had my best friend's husband, a surgeon, watching over me all night)...the blockage resolved after the frantic drive downtown over a 2dzn speedbumps taken at 50mph...seemed to shake things loose in there.
If you have both intake (fluids) and output (stuff coming out of your pouch), no fever, chills, or throwing up, no blood anywhere and can stand it...try to stick to the protocol and drink hot fluids, use heating pads and hot baths, walk as much as you can and try to wait it out....if it gets severe or you get dehydrated then please, do not wait but go to the ER.
They will put you on i.v fluids, and check you out.

Funny thing, Sharon......my surgeon once suggested I drive back and forth over the nearby railroad tracks hoping the bumpiness would loosen anything causing an obstruction! Hmmmmmmm! Do you think he was tired of dealing with me?
Try walking.
I was in the hospital a few weeks ago with what turned out to a partial obstruction. From Wednesday evening to mid-day on Thursday, I had minimal output and did not get out of the bed much.
Then I quit feeling sorry for myself and went for a few laps around the unit.
About 10 minutes, later, the floodgates opened. I credit the walk I took for jiggling my abdomen.
At the hospital, I got a CT scan and several xrays at the ER, followed by xrays two AND three days later. Some good drugs like morphine and dilaudid helped as did an enema.

CC, it depends on whether or not a train was coming!
Thanks, Jeff! <g>
