Hi everyone!

I popped into my local health shop with a friend who purchased Aloe Vera gel for her spots and blemishes. I came across Aloe Vera Juice, apparently it is said to aid digestion and relieve the symptoms of spasms and bloating (I get that a lot!). It is also thought to have a very praised anti-inflammatory effect on the gut.

Has anyone tried aloe Vera juice? Is it safe to use for J-pouchers?

Please let me know...

Best wishes

Mary

I know others here have tried it with varying success, and they might be better able to fill you in on any benefits. Unfortunately when I tried it a few years ago, I found it gave me diarrhea almost immediately, so I didn't bother to continue with it. However, we are all different in terms of what we can/cannot tolerate, and I certainly wouldn't consider it to be "unsafe" for the pouch. As with any new food you are adding to your diet, you could try a small amount at first and see how it affects you, then adjust up or down accordingly.

Good luck!

This is one of those things that depends on the company that makes it. You need to be sure that it is a reputable company with good quality control that makes sure that there is no aloe latex included in the product. The aloe latex can be quite irritating to the GI tract. It is used as a laxative! There are other precautions if you have kidney disease, diabetes, etc.

Thanks for the update!  I found it helpful for a while but then it started to wear on my kidneys, so I have put it on hold.  I think it could be an "as needed" supplement for me for acid reflux.  It definitely helped with that.   I never stopped applying it topically, just stopped with the ingestion of it.  I liked the idea of it helping with wound healing for internal stuff, but am taking other things for that at this time.
