I just got back from a 3 day trip and it is so hard to try and eat right , i feel surrounded by menus full of unhealthy options . I am dealing with pouchitis and taking cipro but really having a tough time even at home finding that balance of the right diet . What does everyone do when you are away from home and cant eat right . I ate very little while i was gone but i find myself losing weight ( i dont weigh much to begin with , 145 - 150 lbs ) but im now 135 lbs . Thanks for listening

Hi Dbone,
I haven't travelled very much but when I went to visit my son in DC recently I went to a coop and market right after landing. I had arranged to have my own place as I wanted the private space and my own kitchen and bathroom. I bought coffee, yogurt, bananas, apples, organic veggies (that I could cook to my own liking)and peanut butter and bread. These were my staples that I could rely on during my stay so that I wouldn't feel like my diet would get too screwed up. I still ate with my son and family much of the time as they were very accommodating but it was nice to know that I could eat lightly if I needed to during the day and have my own foods in the morning and later evening. I think we just have to plan things out and have some good, reliable foods with us (in a purse or back pack) or close at hand to be prepared. I too find that many restaurants have few choices for my diet and most snack foods do not go over well for me. I'm sure others who are big travelers will have some good suggestions for you. It is always hard to be less spontaneous then you would like to be, but it feels even better to take good care of yourself.

I stick to proteins and I still am adventurous with food. I just avoid sugar, it might be in a sauce if I can't avoid it... but I don't eat desserts. I also avoid bread, bread will kick my SIBO in big time.

I do miss my kitchen a lot when I am in hotels for months at a time. But for those times I hit the salad bar at Whole Foods or get fresh seafood at the docks.
