Hi, I'm new to this forum and new to the j-pouch. I had my stage 2 of 3 surgery in the UK to form the j-pouch laparoscopically 11 days ago, and was discharged from hospital 6 days ago.
I'm doing pretty well I think, much better than the first operation to remove my colitis-ridden colon, which resulted in a 7 week stay in hospital. However I do have a few niggles which I hope some people who have already been through this can comment upon.
Firstly, did you experience any pain in the anus after the surgery? I didn't have this immediately after the op, its been worse since I came home. It kinda feels like my coccyx is bruised, a dull sort of aching pain. I didn't pass any mucus at all the first couple of days after my operation, followed by a few days of passing loads without forcing it, first without much control but then with no leaks at all. However now it seems to have stopped almost completely, and I'm worried there is some up there but I'm subconsciously holding it in.
Secondly, did anyone else have troubles peeing after the op? It seems to take me an age to get started when I need to go, and when I do the flow rate is diminished somewhat. It sometimes takes a couple of goes of this to feel like I've finished. Is this just muscle or nerve damage from the op and will it improve over time? I don't think I have a UTI because there are no other symptoms of infection, it doesn't sting etc.
Do you think these symptoms could point to an infection in the pouch or an abscess or something? I've got to go back for a blood test tomorrow so I guess elevated infection markers will show that up if I do, but wanted to ask on here to see if anyone else had an opinion first.
Cheers, Josh
