I have been noticing since I've been in the trial and error phase of food intake since my takedown 2 weeks ago; that two foods in particular are very helpful in keeping my intestines happy and they are bananas and yogurts.. My question is I can't really seem to find an actual meal dish yet that doesnt cause some sort of aggrivation. I don't mind having bananas and yogurt for snacks but since I'm slowly regaining my appetite I'd like to know what kind of foods helped you during your recovery and which foods were irratating. I had a piece of lasagna the other night and boy did I pay for it. I know my pouch was very displeased with the red marinara sauce. I know everything is trial and error but any advice would be greatly appreciated Smiler

To mix things up you can also do savory oatmeal, OR a more traditional type of savory "porridge" like polenta or risotto (which is basically slow cooked rice porridge). To either of those you can add lean chicken, very well cooked veggies, etc. Cook in chicken stock instead of water to add nutrients and flavor.

I will agree though, at least for now my favorite breakfast is oatmeal with sliced banana. I can't bring myself to eat it more than once a day, but if I could enjoy the same after effects 24 hours a day I would be a happy camper!

They served me lasagna in the hospital after my takedown! I thought it was a weird thing to bring someone who just had this surgery but I was hungry and I ate it. BIG mistake! The good news is I can eat it no problem now and you will be able to as well in the future. I ate yogurt and scrambled eggs with toast for the first three weeks after takedown then I was fine after that to get more adventurous. Red sauce can still give me a bit of trouble but not every time I have it. Grilled chicken, rice, mashed potato are good ones to eat right now.

I can do milk, but I'm lactose intolerant, so I try to limit it. I use a dairy digestive, too, to help, yogurt doesnt bother me, and switched to almond milk for my milk, but I can't give up cheese! It's a weakness. But the drier/harder the cheese, the less problem for me.

I can eat pretty much anything, but I avoid a lot of nuts, mushrooms, corn and stuff like that, cause I've had a narrowing in the past, and I just don't wanna deal with them getting stick in my pouch again.

In the beginning, pretzels were my friend, as was peanut butter. And potatoes. Oddly, the same foods that helped me at the start are NOT as friendly to me these days. My pouch can be *too* efficient at extracting water, and things get too bulky. A meat/fish diet with veggies and fruit works best for me these days, with the thickener foods playing second fiddle in small portions only.

It's funny how things will change over the lifetime with your pouch.
