2 weeks post takedown, developed a red itchy rash around my old stoma site (it was stapled shut, staples are now removed and steri strips are over the incision as it wasn't quite closed). It looks and feels an awful lot like the fungal infection I used to get under my wafer. It isn't hot, no drainage, no fever -- I don't think the site itself is infected. Does this make any sense? Is it safe to use an OTC anti-fungal (like athlete's foot) cream on this area? Obviously I will avoid the incision itself.

Should be OK. That might tell you if you are thinking in the right direction or not. Could even be a reaction the adhesive in the steri-strips, but you'd probably be able to tell if it was.

Are you keeping it covered, or is it open to air? If it is covered, then fungal infection makes sense.

Of course, probably would not hurt to tell your surgeon about your observations and how you intend to deal with it. He may say "fine, go ahead," or "NO, I want to see this!"
