I am three months out of takedown. I am back to work, I feel strong, no pain, just completley maddening burning and itching. Its not all the time but when it occurs it is too much for anyone to take. I have had a dilation recently, no help. I am on Lomotil now, not much help. I have nifidine cream, not much help. I do have some bleeding now and then, not all the time. I am starting to feel like I should have stayed with the bag. It was its own mess, but I never had this terrible burning and itching.
I have been taking 5-7 hot baths a day.
How much is too much of Lomotil?
I take 2 three times a day, but today it was extremely bad and I just took my 5th dose.
It seems like if I can get Lomotil or Immodium to slow or stop gut, then I can get some relief. I am about to stop eating its so bad.
I am now thinking about disability, reversal, life in general.
I am a mess.
I live in Kansas, and had the surgeries at the Cleveland Clinic,
I am so completley broke now I cant just fly back to have a follow up, and have a local Colorectal guy, but do wonder if I should go back.
I loved Cleveland Clinic, but
I now have to self catheter, and have this horrendous burning and itching and I really feel this is not the outcome I wanted.
Need answers please

You could very well have cuffitus. I have chronic inflammation in the cuff and anal transitional zone and experience symptoms exactly as you describe that can be maddening. At your length of recovery I was having similar issues and kept thinking it was just normal adjustment. Upon exam under anesthesia they noted inflammation in the rectsl cuff and last two centimeters of anal canal. I also have a stricture at the anastomosis connection that requires occasional dilation under anesthesia.

You should see a qualified Gi or contact your surgeon or Bo Shen if you went to Ckeveland clinic. They can start you on steroid suppositories or Canasa suppositories to help if this is what is going on. I sldo take cipro to help with symptoms. Also a squirt water bottle used as a biget will help clear any excess stool from the anal canal which can help the burning and itching. Another possibility is you may have an anal fissure.

I know how frustrating this can be. I also never had these issues before surgery and at two years later I still struggle with their chronic nature and most likely will be on rectsl meds for life to try and control the inflammation. Try and get seen so if this is your issue you can tackle it quickly to get under control.

Try installing a toilet bidet it was and is the best thing I did for itch and burning I no longer use creams I used to use 5 different ones. Anyway it cannot hurt. Purchase an inexpensive one it easily connects to toilet and if it helps you like it did me invest in a more advanced one that heats water ect. It takes a little getting used to especially with cold water but it stops my itch right away.

Hi Xenophon,

I had my reversal surgery March 6th and I still experience diarrhea, butt burn and itching. I don't know if it is due to diet, stool consistency or infection. I recently had a sigmoidoscopy and I have pouchitis and cuffitis. I am taking VSL#3 DS (4 packets daily),Canasa suppository daily and Cipro. After two weeks of Cipro I was having tendonitis problems so I now taking Augmentin. I have very little butt burn and itching now although it is not totally gone away. I am also very frustrated. I have to say that since the burning and itching are internal the creams and warm baths do not seem to help. I hope others comment since I too am very frustrated.

Regards, Dort
