Hi, I've finally had the initial consultation with a surgeon regarding a colectomy and hopefully a pouch creation.

I initially talked with one of the bosses junior medics who said i was very well researched when he asked what i already knew about the operation.
He said the operation would treat the urgency symptoms, i asked him about the energy problem as i'm constantly knackered and he said this operation would not treat that issue.
Now everyone i've messaged and heard off on these forums say that they feel like a new person when the diseased inflamed colon was gone.
Now this junior chap also mentioned the operation can be done in one step meaning an active pouch straight away, very occasionally though, he seemed to back track when i pressed the matter. What if the pouch leaked? Stool leaking into the abdomen isn't good i think. Two step is what i would be having as i'm currently pretty healthy apart from flaring UC.

Its this energy comment he made thats bugging me, how did everyone else feel post colectomy taking aside the recovery from surgery which probably is a bit uncomfortable at times...

Heck, I got my energy back. Everyone's different, of course.

FWIW, I had a one-step procedure, and have no regrets. The recovery was very unpleasant (10 days in the hospital), but then it was *over*. Many here are horrified by the risks of a one-step, and I suppose I'd be singing a different song if I'd had complications.
