Hello,

I will be posting more here since I am in the process of getting surgery consults for a j pouch. I'll post more about my story once I'm a bit less out of it.

I live in Maryland and have a surgery consult with Dr effron in July. I was also going to try and see Dr Remzi since i hear so many good things about getting the surgery done there and the drive would only be 6 hours.

Unfortunately I can't get in to see Dr Remzi until October 4th. I was wondering if anyone has helpful info or tips on getting surgery done long distance like this and also if the wait is common. Thanks.

Remzi is a wait. Dietz you can get in sooner and he or Ashburn are amazing! I see them since Remzi no longer deals with kpouches/continent ileostomies. Remzi usually takes on bad cases is from what I hear since he got promoted. If you were having a lot of jpouch issues then he would be stepping in to do surgery. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ashburn, she is awesome and Dietz and her work together so you get a great team.

There are many fabulous, knowledgeable, experienced colorectal surgeons at CC. Remzi mainly deals with the problem cases. So if you are not a problem case, yes you will have a very very long wait to see him. And then even longer to get surgery scheduled.

I might suggest you see another CC surgeon - stocchi, dietz, ashburn (new but supposedly good), or one of the others. I am a Remzi patient - as I am a problem child! But I have been cared for by stocchi and dietz post surgery in the hospital when remzi traveled. They were both EXTREMELY competent.

Also - another advantage to being a non-Remzi patient, is that you should have an easier time getting post op appointments and scheduling future surgeries.
