I take it on occasion in the form of percocet. It works very well in slowing things down and increasing my comfort level. However, since I do not use it regularly, I can't offer any more insight.

It has worked fine for me for short-term post-op pain. I like that it isn't combined with Tylenol, since I can try to substitute Tylenol when I'm starting to feel better, but if the Tylenol isn't adequate I can add the opiate (Oxycontin) without risking a Tylenol overdose.

Oxycontin is the same as Percocet, without the Tylenol. Yeah, no chance of overdosing on Tylenol, but Tylenol potentitiates the oxycodone,making it more effective at a lower dose, so it is a trsde off.

According to the wonderful and always true Internet, oxyCODONE is Percocet, which is quite different than oxyCONTIN. I was on big doses of OxyContin after coming off the fentanyl pain patches. It worked fantastically during that period in my life. Coming off of it was done in the hospital under doctors orders and was still a real bad night in my life. But that was a long time ago, and detox to suboxone is much better nowadays!

I guess I misspoke and did not make myself clear. Oxycodone is the opiate that is contained in both Percocet and Oxycontin. Percocet and Oxycontin are brand names, and oxycodone is an ingredient. Percocet has added Tylenol. Oxycontin can be time release (for longer duration) or immediate release.

Oxycodone is more potent than hydrocodone, which is the opiate in Vicodin and Norco.

Phonix, one thing I didn't mention is that it appears you are taking the time release type (evry 12 hours)? If this is true, it is possible it may not be as effective for you if you have a fast transit time. The second dose is delayed release, I think 6 hours after ingestion. So, if you find you are not getting that second "boost," it could be due to a too fast of gut transit.

Jan, I agree that Tylenol helps oxycodone's effectiveness, and wasn't suggesting eliminating the Tylenol. If it's in a separate pill, though, there's a simpler, more secure path to weaning off the opiate (to just Tylenol).
