Many years post colectomy and cholecystectomy, Tom recently had a week of bad diarrhea. A lot of Metamucil, Imodium and rice have finally settled it down, but he is still having burning, acidic stools. Could his PCP prescribe Questran, or does that have to come from the GI? (He does not have a GI appt until the end of the month.) What medications or types of medications can Questran NOT be taken with--do his narcotic and anti-depressant meds make him unable to take cholestrymine?
I'm not sure about the interactions but with any medications you have to time them properly with cholestyramine -- cholestyramine will block absorption of other meds taken 2-6 hours before/after (I say "2-6" because my GI says 2, pharmacist says 6... depends on your risk tolerance I guess).
