Hi everyone,
I am concerned the long term usage of cipro is the cause of my debilitating all over body aches and muscle pain. I have been pretty much bed ridden for three days. The fatigue and all over pain is so bad I have been in tears. Does anyone know if this could be from the cipro or something more serious. I'm really unable to function and I'm seeing a pain specialist next week and a rheumatologist.

Hi Jeane,
My daughter was VERY bad on cipro, may have even told you this when we spoke. She was walking like a 90 year old woman and she was 16 at the time. It even hurt to hold a pen/pencil. When she started with tendon pain also I just took her off. The GI at the time said she would be fine, but he wasn't the one in pain.

Hope you feel better. Maybe you can rotate off with something else?

They had me on Cipro for over a year for a systemic staff infection that just wouldn't quit...I had never had tendon problems before, was extremely active (don't drive so walk everywhere) and suddenly I couldn't make it up the hill to the subway or over to the market...blew out my achiles tendons twice and it took years for my ankles, elbows and shoulders to come back...no one told me that it was the cipro or even warned me (to give them credit, they were too worried about the infection to care about my tendons)...now, over 10 yrs later I still have fragile achiles tendons but the others are much better...you can ask them to change antibiotics and see if that helps...you need to keep your limbs limber and moving but not over stressed...drink tons of fluids etc...and wait it out...You may need some sort of phisio if you are still aching after you stop it...walking in the pool can help a lot if you can get to one and a sauna or heating pad can is good for the general aches...but you need cold on the tendons if they are starting to hurt.

Vanco did this to me. I was olympic weightlifting and doing crossfit 5 days a week then I went on Vanco for C.diff and still have not recovered. I am going to pain management now and taking Norco and Oxy. I can barely walk up stairs. I have been off of it for weeks and just not bouncing back.

Tomorrow I am going in for cupping and accupuncture to hopefully relieve some of this horrific leg pain.

Thank you for the feedback. I'm sorry others are also experiencing this. Without the cipro the pouch acts up. I'm going to try augmentin again.
This is the worst pain ever. I'm so physically exhausted all the time and wake up several times a night in agony with arms, legs back pain etc. It seems I never have a minute free from muscle and joint pain and its really eating at me emotionally also.

I have fibromyalgia and was thinking that it sounds like you might have it too. It's good that you are going to see a Rheumy, please be checked out for this. It is thought to be brought on by major stress and unfortunately you have had your share of that the last few years.

Switching off of Cipro is a good idea too.
Take Care
TE Marie
