Can an ovarian cyst possible be the cause of my daughter's pain? She had a pouch revision in May'12 and then required a strictureplasty at the old stoma site in Jan'13 and in between all this they have seen (ct scan) a cyst on her ovary and she had gone for 2 pelvic ultrasounds in the past year and was suppose to go again in Sept but never made it since the surgeries always came first.

Since the Jan surgery, 5 weeks post op, she started having stomach pain and sometimes pelvic pain. She had a scope, no narrowing, then a upper GI with barium, even though the strictureplasty site looked a little different on the upper GI the radiologist said it could be a motility issue. So yesterday she had an enteroscopy where the dr went in from the bottom and up 100cm...no narrowing, and all looks good.(yeah)

So why is she still having pain, 50+ days now?

So I started thinking maybe it could be from the cyst? Although we don't know if it's still there since she needs to fit a pelvic ultrasound in between running to the GI.

Surgeon, out in Chicago at where she goes to school, says she could just be in pain FOREVER from having the abdominal surgeris!

Thank you.

Any ideas, PLEASE?

When I had an ovarian cysts (and I have had many on several different occasions), the only time I had pain was when one passed during my period (probably ruptured/burst at that time). The pain was acutely intense to the point of where I was almost vomiting and could not sit up straight and had to have a friend drive me home from work that day.It was horrible. I am not sure how big her cyst is and if it could be pressing on the abdomen to cause her pain or not. I do agree though that since has has had many abdominal surgeries, she could have pain from scar tissue.
I had two c-sections in addition to my jpouch surgery and I also struggle with chronic abdominal pain (the pouchitis does not help either). My pain seems to be worse after drinking tea, eating chocolate or rich/creamy/fried foods or drinking alcohol). Possibly if she restricts her diet from the offenders known to aggravate the gi tract she may have some reduction in her pain. Just a thought. Also, have her make the appointment for the ultrasound soon as that will give you a much better indication of the size of the cyst and
any discomfort it may be causing. The pelvic pain leads me to believe it could be cyst related although I do have lower left pelvic pain often that my GI feels is scar tissue related from my repeat surgeries.

Yes, It could...but it doesn't always...I have had a few over the years and some were awful (especially during PMS, periods or sex) but I had a couple that just always hurt especially if I wore tight clothing (jeans) or was running around a lot (always)...so have it checked out by a gyn...also, on my hit parade of the most painful of gyn specialties would be salpangitis...where the fallopian tube is inflamed or infected...not always easy to catch on other exams...But it can be mind blowingly painful...I would hurl, vomit, scream and writh on the floor in pain until they figured it out and fixed it (first a long course on antibiotics then the surgery)...so a gyn would be the go-to doc to check it all out...
Hope that they figure this out quickly and get her life/health straitened out soon.
