Can anyone tell me what the normal size opening of the jpouch anastomosis connection outlet should be? I have read if your surgeon can insert the index finger to the first knuckle easily within the connection, that should be wide enough. I know mine is about the circumference of of a straw and I am having a balloon dilation next month which I am a bit concerned about as the purpose of this is to stretch the opening and more scar tissue is created that then heals. Anyone else have this procedure done successfully versus a manual finger dilation in office (which I have had at least three of)? The GI also said he may insert kenelog at the same time to keep any inflammation down for healing.

Thank you.

I had a dilation under anesthesia prior to my takedown as my surgeon couldn't even do the finger thing in his office and I was suffering from pouchitis - even pre-takedown.

It definitely worked. And it really was not a big deal of a procedure. Few days on narcotic pain meds and bleed for a few days. But really nothing more than a minor inconvenience.
