Hello everybody, I am new to the site. Well I found it and joined a long time ago, and honestly, totally forgot about it.

I'm 27, married, with 2 childen, and this June will be 9 years from my colon surgery, and I'm about 10 years in from UC diagnosis.

I look forward to being on here and trying to help and contribute also.

I do have a few questions that I wonder if I in the norm or what.

1. Do most of you take daily meds to cut down your bathroom trips?

2. Do most of you suffer from dehydration frequently?

3. Do you work out much or any if so do you have any issues?

Again thanks!

Hello and welcome back!
My take down was 2 years and 2 months ago. I usually control my BM's with the food I eat but when I have boughs of cuffitis and/or c-diff infections. Then I take Imodium.

I drink an electrolyte sports hydrating drink daily, usually first think in the am and before bed.

I take daily pain and antispasmodic medications due to IPS and adhesions. I take more of it when I have cuffitis etc.

I have other health problems that keep me from exercising but I haven't given up being able to that.

I take a single Lomotil at bed time, and Metamucil a couple of times each day. I've never gotten dehydrated, but I drink a lot of water. I work out a few times a week without incident. I do Japanese jujitsu, and occasionally have a small squirt when squatting or getting bounced off the floor. My aging joints are a bigger impediment than my pouch.

Hi and welcome back.

I take two lomotil/day to help slow things down (one in the morning, one at bedtime). I can't imagine taking 8/day for fear of slipping into a coma (it makes me a little drowsy).

I also am currently taking antibiotics for pouchitis which helps a lot. Much reduced frequency and in general just feel a lot better. Just hoping I don't have a chronic problem.

I have never experienced dehydration. I have just begun drinking more water as of yesterday, but in an effort to assist with the pouchitis, not because I have hydration issues.

Finally, I do try to stay healthy and exercise. But like Scott F my main limitation is my joints, particularly my knees. This has reduced substantially my road work. Hope to get back on the running trail in April if all goes well. In the meantime, weights, resistance and swimming.

Hello.
I'm only 4 months post op takedown. I'm 31 with 2 small children.

I take pain meds daily, off of the narco ones, and on a lighter pain med. I take a diarreah tab in the morning and at night. Some days I don't if I know I don't have to go anywhere, to clean myself out. I take imodium on the days I have to be out in the public.

I do get dehydrated easily. I feel I can't keep up with my liquid intake. Happens easily at night so I keep a Gatorade by my bedside.

I have not exercised in almost 2 years, since I was diagnosed in 2011. I do try to walk as much as I can, this causes a lot bottom pain and pressure, so I sit often. I'm a bit underweight right now, so I have to do what I can to keep my energy up and strength. I heard yoga is good for jpouchers.

I have fibromyalgia which includes chronic fatigue syndrome. Anyone that has been out of take down for 6-12 months I suggest you look up the symptoms as it's an autoimmune/muscle etc related problem.

Once you have an autoimmune problem there are others that can follow or are already there. I also have an out of control thyroid problem.

For me the answers are:

1. I am a chronic antibiotic user which itself cuts down on bathroom trips, so the answer is yes.

2. I drink a lot of fluids but am very prone to getting dehydrated and passed out from dehydration after a long weekend of entertaining followed by a 3 hour bout with explosive diarrhea this past December. If I vomit and/or have any serious diarrhea I go from hydrated to dehydrated quicker than the bat of an eyelash.

3. Yes, I work out, mostly on a treadmill, 45 minutes 3-4 times per week. Not enough, but it's what I can do.

1. I use Imodium but have quit since I'm back in the hospital and having issues with pain and fistula

2. No but I drink a lot of water and keep g2 Gatorade handy

3. I haven't worked out Bc I have lost a lot of weight from my surgeries and wanna gain some weight and my takedown was recent so I don't want to lift any more than 20 lbs for fear of hernia and straining

Hi,

I am similar to you in terms of surgery and UC diagnosis. I currently take loperamide (same as imodium), 2 x 2mg capsules three times a day before meals. I am sure this helps me a lot.

I don't drink enough and since upping my water I do feel better than I did. I did have a stomach virus last year that gave me sickness and diarrhea and ended up in hospital as I was severely dehydrated, that happened super fast and was quite scary.

I am currently underweight and in attempts to put on weight via muscle mass I have joined gyms but I always end up quitting as I find it far too tiring. I am currently low in vitamin D so that would make me more tired than usual but even when my bloods are good I have not been able to cut it at the gym.

When things are good I find running ok.
