I had a colectomy with temp end ileo four weeks ago, still have my rectum but it's sewn up at the top. My surgeon told me it would be normal to feel some urges and to pass small amounts of mucus or stool. I felt urges a lot right after surgery but it lessened over time to virtually nothing.

I've been sick with a cold for the past few days and I started feeling some urges again. This morning I passed two big pieces of mucus with some blood attached. Not dripping red blood, but definitely some blood on the mucus.

Is this the "normal" post surgery discharge or is this a sign of flaring in the rectum?
