Hi All,

I had all my surgery 10 years ago and since have had very few problems living without my bowel and with a j-pouch(luckily) but recently over the last few months I have started to get a bit of right side pain in my stomach.
I have changed my diet and cut out all soft drink, mushrooms, corn, nuts and hard to digest foods etc and it got better for a while but has now come back.
I have had no other symptoms, I was wondering if it is perhaps scar tissue from surgery causing the problem.
Has anyone else had this problem? Confused

I have had a lot of trouble with scar tissue. I have had two J-pouches created and that has left a lot of scar tissue. In November of 2012 I had hernail surgery (Hernia was between the two ostomy sites) and most of the time in surgery was spent removing adhesions to get to the hernia. The adhesions were 'choking off' the small intestine causing blockages. Scar tissue could very well be causing part or all of your problems.

Yes, it could be scar tissue, as it can be silent for years or decades, then start problems at any time. However, if this is persistent, you really should see your doctor because there are a number of causes of abdominal pain. Some of these are fairly benign, but others can be quite serious, even life threatening. So, best to get it checked out if it persists. The most common cause of right sided pain is gallbladder trouble, and gallstones are more common after colectomy.

Have a gallbladder that needs to come out. I have one large stone that has grown from 2cm in 2001 to 4.3cm currently.

But- sounds like so many people have diarrhea issues after surgery. I'm afraid of being tied to the bathroom again.

Last night it felt like my gallbladder ruptured, but I don't have any symptoms like fever, ongoing pain, etc. Just very mild discomfort. Scared me enough to start seriously thinking about removal, but seriously sometimes I feel that I'd prefer death over being a prisoner at home again.

Would love to hear how others have fared after gallbladder removal. And if you've had bathroom issues, how bad are the issues compared to having full-blown flares of UC?

Thanks.

I had the same pain and thought for sure it was something to do with my j-pouch surgery. The GI suggested we go to the hospital for xray of some sort and to my shock it was my ovary and it was enlarged. I had surgery the next day to remove it. Doc thought for sure it was cancerous and to my luck it was not. So even though you notice with food choices I would still have it checked. BTW if I have one more part of my body taken out I will scream...lol
