I had my takedown in mid-December and tried to prevent "buttburn". I haven't been eating food that is hot or spicy (even though I love tacos, burritos, etc.). I use moist wipes the majority of the time unless I don't have any available. I used Desitin, Aquaphor, and just switched to Calmoseptine to soothe the area. However, I noticed about a week or so ago, every time I wiped following a BM, there was a very small amount of blood on the wipe or toilet paper. It has gotten worse the past few days because more blood is noticeable and the irritation in the area tends to become painful when I sit for a prolonged time. The Calmoseptine cream makes it feel better for a little bit, but how will this heal if I'm repeatedly wiping? Am I at risk for an infection? I'm thinking someone on this forum has had a bad case of "butt burn" before...

I suggest you install a sprayer, if you don't have a bidet. We ordered a $50 kit from Diabetes & More and it took my husband 10 minutes to install it. I spray clean every time and "dab" with Charmin Ultra Soft to dry. Sometimes I use Witch Hazel on TP or a cotton ball too. It is the main ingredient in prep H. BUT you don't want to use it if you have broken skin as it has some alcohol. Please DAB vs wipe too. Sitz baths are great too.

That said you could have hemorrhoids or broken skin or something else like cuffitis. The easiest way to check is to get a mirror and look. You can also can use Hydrocortisone 1% Cream, it's anti-inch, skin irritations, inflammation, etc.

If it's not something like that you should see your surgeon or GI. If you have UC it could be cuffitis. You'll find all kind of info on that is you do a search on here.

I hope you get it calmed down soon
TE Marie
