For a cpl weeks, been having some trouble passing what would seem to me like "pieces of food" that are too big. Some times there was pain trying to pass things, yet still being very unproductive. Other times, there was still pain but a much more productive movement. The pain was right inside of the anal opening, felt like it was just right up inside on the right. Felt like it radiated a little down from there down my leg a few inches. So, to me it felt like there wasn't enough room. So, a cpl of days ago, I paid more attention to what I ate. Started eating things smaller that wouldn't "get caught". I started eating things that would break down well and be easily passable. So, I tried this for a few days and it seems so to have been working. Feels like things haven't been getting "caught" or causing that pain right up inside of me? I figured it was strictures or something that was creating shrinkage of the part connected to the anus.
Well, today and last night, all I've had has been shepard's pie(ground turkey, mashed 'tatos and corn.) Today, I got home, went to the bathroom(NO PAIN, NO CRAMPING, NO URGENCY, NO NOTHING, except the last cpl of weeks of what I assumed was strictures>Wink and everything passed easily, but when I wiped, it seemed like a lot of blood got on the tissue, a cpl more tissues after that. I self dialated with a glove and lube and quite a bit of blood came out on my finger and some of it in goobs, like it had mucus around it too with the blood. Still don't have any pain, just waiting on another bowel movement to see what happens?

Any ideas? Should I be highly concerned(wait to call doc tomorrow)? Already have a supposed "appointment" with a GI, but my PCP was supposed to call them(Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center) to have them to call me to set up an appointment for an endoscope, but still no call from them. Any ideas what it could be? Should I be highly concerned that I'm having NO SERIOUS(what I consider serious) symptoms, yet I'm having blood?!

Any advice would be great. Thanks!

If you are not feeling faint or dizzy, rapid heart rate, or other signs of massive blood loss, I think this can wait until tomorrow. This sounds like cuffitis. While typicaly, you'd get pouchitis like symptoms with it, it is not a given.

But, if you do develop any of those rapid blood loss symptoms, you need togo to the ER, as it means you have a "bleeder" in there and may need cautery to get it to stop.

Haven't had a bloody movement since that one. Seems odd to do it just once. How could that be, from someone like me who is not well versed in the other problems of living with a J Pouch? How do you just have one BIG blip and then nothing? Is cuffitis usually not followed by the same symptoms as the other -itis's? Smiler Thanks for the help.

Well, since this was just a blip, then I doubt it was cuffitis (as like UC- tends to linger and simmer or really rev up).

More than likely, you probably just popped a little blood vessel. I know it seemed like a LOT, but if it was anything other than a tiny thing, you would have bled much more, freaked out and either hemorrhaged, or ran to the ER for treatment. These tiny bleeds just stop on their own and leave everyone with a big question mark over their heads.

Strictures don't just go away, and you would have felt it pop when you put your finger in there. I suppose you could have had a minor obstruction that caused some bleeding, a kink perhaps that unkinked by itself.

Fingers crossed that is the end of it. And, if you have been straining, time to stop that!

I had a big stool of blood, one time, that scared me. A few days later my surgeon diagnosed cuffitis. That was all the blood I saw before the diagnosis. I've never seen that much blood again but am treating cuffitis every time I feel it coming on.

So it could be cuffitis which is what is contributing to your rectum feeling tender. Also corn is hard to digest. When I even have a little of it and think I've chewed chewed chewed, it still does not get digested.

Jan is probably right but when I heard about all the blood it reminded me of what I experienced.

Take care
TE Marie
