after a course of cipro this is exactly what is happening to me every hour or so throughout the day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YscFxiVW-g8 is this possibly a sign of the pouch beginning to mature and recover? the reason i ask is i never had this feeling since my takedown maybe because of pouchitis/inflammation and maybe now the antibiotics have helped allowing what appears to be this normal function of pouch recovery.

Spasms have nothing to do with antibiotics or pouchitis. Spasms are caused by excessive peristalsis after J Pouch surgery. They are common in the 1st year after takedown and are treated with bentyl, levsin, donnatal and other anti-spasmodics.
thank you. its just weird how mine just started now 3-4 months out tail end of cipro.
I thought that sometimes pouchitis symptoms included increased feeling or need to use the bathroom. Couldn't that cause spasms?

The increased urgency to use the bathroom caused by pouchitis and the spasms from excessive peristalsis after takedown are two very different things based on my experience of treating both. No antibiotic in the world is going to stop the latter. Anti-spasmodics taken 30 minutes before meals will.
I get them pretty bad and i have tried all the antispasm meds but they give me horrible blurred vision. I take oxycodone when they get bad enough which helps.
Poucho,
The antispasmodic meds caused me side effects as well. I found that donnatal caused the least side effects of the 4 that I tried. My side effects were mostly feeling lightheaded and loopy.
The spasms in my case occurred whenever I ate anything or a meal and would send me running to the bathroom continually for an hour or more after meals. Taking the anti-spasmodics calms everything down and you do not have that sensation.
I think in most cases this gets better over time. It did in my case.

thank goodness it gets better... I get those too (7 months out)
And antispasmodics don't make everyone loopy. I get no side effects from bentyl, no matter what dose I take.

i had some today and that video is dead on. i freeze clench and tremble with discomfort then after 10 to 20 seconds i go completely calm. hate these things...
could cuffitis cause these symptoms? the last few days i get these spasms im talking about every 15 to 30 minutes all day and they are very uncomfortable but when they fade there is absolutely no pain or discomfort at all.
Yes, when my cuffitis is active, I get these frequently, like every few minutes. But, they can also be caused by pouchitis, IPS, and adaptation.
It can take a year or more for nerves to regenerate during the healing process, and that is why sensations and sensitivity can be all over the place. Even when you are done healing, things can never quite be the same.
I think it is mostly a matter of degree when it is associated with pathology. Like it mentions in the video, they don't necessarily mean anything.
