Hi everyone,
Does anyone see any harm to my pouch with taking miralax for my anastomatic stricture? My GI has recommended this to keep things moving as I do have a very tight stricture at the anastomosis. I am wondering if anyone else has had to deal with this?
At this time, it is really looking like surgery is in my future. The stricture is making things difficult for me and I am not sure any number of additional dilations are going to help, nor will they help heal the ulcers in my anal canal and on my cuff which are not healing due to the stricture.
My GI has finally come forward and told me he feels most of my issues are mechanical (probably surgery related). He feels the pouchitis I have in my distal pouch is from not being able to fully empty my pouch due to the stricture and the same issue with the ulcers not healing due to constant straining/ishemia. This would explain probably why after a full year of various rectal medications, nothing is working. I finally stopped suppositories yesterday as I cannot deal with having to insert anything else in my anal canal that is not helping anyway (anucort actually makes me bleed more).
As of today I have started drinking WAY more water, exercising daily, trying some yoga moves to hopefully increase blood flow to the anal area and will most likely try the miralax. I will be having my 6th scope
since my takedown almost 2 years ago and we will decide where to go from there.
My GI indicated after talking with Dr. Remzi, who scoped me in November that he feels surgery is in my future just from the stricture alone. Dr. Remzi did tell me this himself after I saw him in November but referred me to Dr. Shen to see if we could find a medical solution first. Seems I have run out of options and I really think I am ready for whatever my next step is, no matter what it may be, so I can just get on with my life.
