My 5 year old is suffering with belly distention again and formed stools. I am giving her grape juice with meals but bc this is such a new symptom I am confused with what to feed her. She of course loves all the constipating foods, but no so much soups, teas, or even the grape juice for that matter. Tis is my third time on this forum with the same issue.

I need a list of safe foods for constipation. Please help me. I don't want to give her a blockage either for she might have a narrowing even though the SBFT showed no sign of one. I am a very worried mom. Doctors will not prescribe anything to help her bc she was just released due to dehydration and diarrhea bc of a false positive c.diff test and the vanco destroyed the flora and she now is taking antibiotics for pouchitis.

I am so sorry Rowan is continuing to have problems. (I'd be kicking some do doctors' butts if they were making my child go through 'stuff'.) the things that rush right through me are spinach and beets - neither of which are exactly child-preferred foods. Will she drink other fruit juices? Or eat canned fruits? I would think that fruits in juice might keep things loose.

Also, in the hospital, when pain killers are prescribed, they give patients colace for constipation. I wonder if that is a possibility for her.

They have refused to give her anything in the form of a prescription to help her. Told me to control it with foods with no suggestions. jeez thanks I know. I was thinking of upping her magnesium intake I capsulated some coriander seed powder and have still pushed the grape juice last time it seemed to have subsided after a few days once her body got use to the medication... But right now she is hungry and I don't know what to feed her. I don't have a whole lot in my house either, which doesn't help the situation. I let her have yogurt and an 1/2 a peeled apple today and her belly is distended again I gave her more grape juice and no poop since about 4am so 11 hours ago. When she does they are playdoh like pieces.

No not MOM just a magnesium supplement. Nothing very harsh. Her potassium and sodium are actually on the high side usually. Her nutritional shakes are not the ideal 2:1 cal/mag ratio. Thinking of upping her supplements until we get her to 2:1 or to her appt on Friday. How long do you wait until you go in through ER if you haven't had a BM. Her last BM was 10 hours ago. Granted she went three times and a decent amount during the night. Just feed her a few spoonfuls of oatmeal seeing if things move followed by some more grape juice. Sitting watching a movie with her heating pad now, will exercise her next.
