Was wondering if anyone out there has messed with Opium Tincture at all. Heard some good things about them so long as you use them appropiately.

It is usually the last bowel slower used. On old time remedy. I had very good luck with it (I recently had pouch removed.) It made life semi- bareable with almost no side effects. My insurance covered it, otherwise really expensive
I had it in the hospital but I about died when I tasted it. Then came the terrible nausea. I tried and tried. But just kept getting sicker and sicker until I started throwing up. So then I had to have zofran. I didn't work for me either.
But everyone has different luck with different medicines.
Good Luck. Just don't be to shocked when you taste it. Can't even explain what it taste like. TERRIBLE.

Thank you chiromancer and grandmaof1. All these remedies seem to boil down to the individual. We're all so different. I think all are worth exploring however.I personally have no script insurance so perhaps I'm screwed anyway, lol
chiromancer I'm curious as to why you had your pouch removed??
I was a poor candidate for a pouch to begin with. I then had a very difficult first surgery and was only given a 50/50 chance of success after. My biggest issue was incontinence, unlike many it was daytime and not much at night. I also had a few bouts with pouchitis. Could I have adapted to the pouch? Yes, and that was the problem, my life was being contracted by my pouches needs and its poor function. I lived with it 20 months and then had it disconnected and an end ileo constructed. The disconnected pouch didnt behave and I had a large amount of secretions from the disconnected pouch. I expected some as I had had them with my loop ileo but this became a growing issue and problem, nothing seemed to stop watery mucus, so I had the pouch removed in a 4 hour surgery on Dec 13. The surgery went really really well, better then my surgeon expected (he was all smiles after) all done laproscopically. It is not a simple surgery. I was in the hospital 5 days. I am recovering a bit unevenly which is typical for me. I am 60 so that doesnt help and have now had 5 surgeries in 3 years. But I am up and about, took a 3/4 mile walk/hike today and not in much pain. My end ileo is functioning really well. I opted not to have my anus removed but merely sewn up on the inside. This is making recovery much easier as that wound can be difficult to heal. I am very pleased so far.
I have used it for many years and it definately helps a lot where frequency is concerned. However,I discontinued it about 10 months ago and take only Lomotil. It's not as effective but it is readily available, more convenient when traveling and a lot cheaper. I still do take it occasionally, when I have a big day out and don't want to hassle finding bathrooms.
Thanks chiromancer, sounds like you've made the right choice. Best of luck to you!!
Thanks Donna H. So tell me how many times would you use the bathroom on a typical day? and how much does the opium tincture help?
Numbers are difficult since it depends on what I eat. Let me put in this way; 25% lesser bathroom visits with the Opium. If I lay off of sugar, carbonated beverages and lots of fiber, I go less too.
