I suffered with UC for close to 25 years before it finally
morphed into LGD and surgery was no longer an option. I
partake in the evenings when I get home from work. I'm 14
going on 15 weeks out now from takedown and I can eat pretty much
anything, a couple of beers or cocktails is OK...

If you ask me, yes, it does have a beneficial property.

Joel,

Medical marijuana is now legal in Connecticut. In another thread on medical marijuana, I provided a link to the statute and commented on issues with that law. See this:

Since you seem to have taken advantage of the new law I would be interested to hear your comments on this.

Although I have not used marijuana to treat pouchitis, I am curious as to what the mechanism of action is that would enable it to successfully treat the disease.

I have been a medical marijuana patient for some years now. (WA State legalized MMJ in 1998)

It is good for nausea, cramping, and relaxation. It is also helpful if you suffer loss of appetite because of your symptoms or your meds . . . its main well-known side effect, the "munchies" is not just a myth.

I inhale and ingest it in baked goods. When taking it orally it takes longer to act, but also lasts longer and give more of a "body high" which is most helpful taking the edge off.
However, you don't just eat the stuff, not even finely ground; it is best to extract the THC in a type of fat, like oil or butter, and then bake with that. I have made medicated butter, and it is a smelly messy process, but I did learn it is best to virtually remove all residue of the plant (which I find irritating to the pouch and the tender bottom.) If you do try baked goods, go easy at first . . . you can overdo it thinking it is not working. Sometimes That's why I also inhale.

I have been loving the California medical marijuana for several years now. I swear somedays that, if it weren't for pot, I would never eat. I have this problem - perhaps you too - that eating brings pain. So why eat? It just hurts. Pot is the best for appetite stimulation!

A question or two: how do you cope with dry mouth? And the short-term memory loss? And the dry mouth? Or did I ask that already....

Thanks in advance!

My son takes it in a glycerin tincture. Professional peer-reviewed research from four different countries concluded it decreases intestinal inflammation. He does not get stoned that I can tell. He gets terrible bouts of vomiting for as long as 14 hours with many small blockages without it.

The tincture stops the vomiting faster than Zofran and Diazepam. I am not a fan of pot but it allows him to live a normal and productive life. We tried every prescription drug possible and none helped as much as this one. We still don't know exactly what is wrong. He has asthma and cannot smoke it.

I made some pot butter and used it in triple ginger cookies. Watch out! Pot cookies are really strong. I now make them teaspoon sized. My poor husband and son were terribly stoned. They didn't like the high but at least the cookies tasted great!

This is my only medicine!! After years and years of doing exactly what the doctors said. With no improvement. I started educating myself on the diffrent strains. There effects and possible helping points. I am fortunate to live in Washington and have had my card for many years. I dont think I could get through somedays without a big bite of my awesome moon pie Wink

AFter years of being on loperamide without much success, I've been on lomotil to slow my frequency for a short while now, but still having many (due the colectomy that led to the j-pouch and also loss of a very large majority of my small intestine). It's been discussed that next on the list to slow frequency may be a tincture of opium. I've wondered if marijuana would help, and would probably prefer this route to the tincture of opium. Thanks for starting the discussion. I appreciate seeing people's experiences.

Has anyone had experience or seen research indicating slowed frequency (slowed peristalsis)? On a daily basis, my frequency isn't necessarily due to inflammation, although at times is certainly complicated by it.

Nikki,
I can defintly see how they think a tincture of opium may help. I self medicated on herion for years before my first surgery. Its a horrible thing. I am fully aware. But I did what I had to do to keep myself alive. I know that sounds silly to say herion kept me alive. But the pain meds just were doing anything anymore. I couldnt leave my bathroom for months. And my first surgery to remove my whole large and put in a j-pouch was a emergency surgery. I have been clean of all that nonsense for 9 years. Since my 1st surgery. Now as I said before marijuana is my only meds. I have definitly found that edibles and tinctures help the fastest for frequency. Its almost like that localized effect calms the pouch down. I prefer to smoke to keep the stress down though. You have a great dispencery up in bellingham. People that know what there talking about. I go regularly. Hope this helps. Sorry about the little bit of a rant. Ive just been in a mood.
