bootstrap,

I did not want to post this before your NG tube came out, so as not to give you any inappropriate ideas, but when I had the NG tube I pulled it out myself because I could not take it any more. Fluids had ceased being sucked up the tube, my ileostomy bag was filling and I was feeling better and I did it sort of spontaneously. It came out pretty easily and certainly much more easily than it went in (it was inserted while I was vomiting and resisting, by a resident doctor with extensive NG tube insertion experience who physically overpowered me).

When the nurses at Mount Sinai Medical Center saw what I had done, I was read the riot act, but it was not reinserted because the ileus had passed and they knew it after examining me.

I am really glad to hear you are making progress after this extended recovery period. It should all be getting better from here. The NG tube insertion is always everyone's low point and that is now in your rear view mirror. You now have NG tube war stories like the rest of us, which you can tell to later generations. Wink
