ok, help here please ..... how in the hell do you make yourself fart more???

i have way more gas inside me than wants to come out.
i go to the can and push... squirt squirt squirt.... wait... push... push... squirt.... fart... silence....

where are the rest of my farts?
how do i get them outta me?
i look 4 months pregnant with gas and i can barely move it's so painful.

i am 1 week post takedown and was in hospital 6 days due to sleepy bowels. i finally pooped on day 4. since that very first poop i have had to actually push and try to poo. it doesn't just flow out or act like diarrhea at all (except that it is pure liquid). i have to push. every time.

even now on day 7, if i feel a twinge in my butt like i have to go to the toilet, i can actually ignore and sit there for ages and then not have to go. i can feel some in there but it's not urgent or burny or anything. then i realize hours later that i should probably go to the bathroom now and then i go and have to push.
is this normal? is this okay? am i going to break something if i push?
and why are farts so very hard to come by.

also, how odd is it to poo now? it's happening and i'm pushing but it doesn't feel like me or my normal bum doing the job. so strange. no butt burn either so i'm happy about that.
no accidents. no issues with urgency.
i actually feel sometimes like i should go to the bathroom more and make something happen after hearing all the talk.
am i doing it wrong?

or is it just all over the place weirdness from here on out?

cheers

stephalynnd,

Wow, if I didn't know any better, I could have written this post.

I have had the same problems for many years. I do know one thing, when I try and force it, not once, but many times a day, it adds more trouble because then, I have severe butt pain where it stings so much and then I have blood, probably from hemroids.

A couple of things you should do. First, take Beano before your first bite of food.

Secondly, take Activated Charcoal after you eat. I think you have to wait at least 2 hrs after you are done eating. I normally take this at bedtime. I take the Nature's Way Brand. My GI also prescribed Dicyclomne, 10 mg to take as needed vor spasm.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

One thing that has helped me a lot is to do the following:

1. lay down on your side with your legs curled up - sort of like the pre natal position

2. Diet - avoid bread and wheat; I have eliminated these two ingedients from my diet and no more gas

You could also have a bacteria infection; Perhaps you need to go on a course of anti-biotics like cipro and flagyl; these two drugs will eliminate the gas.

Good luck!

honestly, i wouldn't be concerned about much at this point. sounds like you are doing great only one week post op! don't try to force anything. just because many people have issues, don't expect that you will. there's no reason you have to be going a lot or having urgency. i felt really great a week after takedown and was only going a few times a day with no urgency. also, try to avoid bowel slowers for a few weeks if you can. if you are taking any right now, they could be contributing to your gas pains/build up. give yourself some time...your body is still healing.
I am one day post-takedown, and aside from a lot of walking earlier in the day (which I know you've been doing), what got me going just now was the combo of a heating pad on my tummy and drinking hot chamomile tea. I've been getting a couple toots here or there, but pretty much kind of pent up for most of the day... but just let a few good ones rip after I started sipping the tea just a few minutes ago. *shrug* If I still have issues tomorrow I'm going for the Gas-X I snuck in. ;-)
It sounds like we have pretty similar backgrounds! I also had emergency surgery so prior to getting my colon taken out I didn't get a chance to do too much research other than what a curious UC-er would wonder about. Honestly most of the problems I've had I've found answers to by looking at past forums. I had one about farting and the resounding response I got was that most j-pouchers just don't fart. On the toilet, yes. Otherwise I don't know, I think I've farted maybe three times since 2010. Very exciting every time, but doesn't seem to pan out to a shart-free future.
