I had my pouchogram yesterday in hopes to schedule my takedown however I was told they believe to have seen a small leak and would like to wait ANOTHER 4 weeks to have this test done again. I obviously want the pouch to be healed and ready for the second surgery I am just grieving the fact that I have to wait and the surgery will be closer to Thanksgiving. I miss being able to hold my son and pick him up. I have a terrible skin irritation that is making intimacy with my husband impossible, and leaking that make keeping a pouch on for more than 24 hrs very difficult. I know I shouldn't be having a pity party but it is a tough answer to get when things were looking up for once.

i wish i was in your situation. i didn't have time in between surgeries (step 2 and 3 were combined into 1 surgery), and ended up with a small RV fistula, where stool poured out of my vagina because of a "small leak". that is taking a long time to resolve, and i had to be on antibiotics for a long time. things are getting a little better, very slowly tho. Trust me, you DON'T want that.

I can understand your frustration. You just want it to be done with. But it better to be totally healed so you won't have any complications after takedown. I had a lot of skin problems too with my stoma so I can sympathize. Since you have this delay can you see a stoma nurse to perhaps try a different appliance to help your skin irritation? I should have done that myself instead of suffering with mine. Hang in there!

I feel for your situation. I also have very sensative skin and found using the hygienic wafer has helped and using the donut putty ring under my wafer has also helped. I once had to change my bag 6 times in 2 days due to leakage. My husband and I met with my ostomy nurse and she helped us with some ideas to help us with the leakage and we have had some success. It is definitely getting easier every day. We also used the powder to help with the irritation and it has helped.

Sorry to hear it. Have you talked to your wound nurse about the leaking? They shouldn't happen and they should be able to help fix it. I tried a few things before realizing that using the putty from the tube worked best for me. Hopefully a better working bag would help you feel better. Don't settle for a bad situation with your bag. Maybe change brands.

Hang in there.

I have my takedown scheduled this week and I can't wait. However, I have learned to deal with the ileostomy. I was having alot of leaks and was getting extremely frustrated with it. I've been putting the eakin seal around the stoma(powder before) and then the paste on the protective barrier. It seems like overkill, but it works. Haven't had a leak since. Hope this helps.
