I am a new ileostomy patient with a healing jpouch. I am 3 weeks post surgery and have so many questions. Not only is my energy level so low I have a lot of anus pressure and pain. My surgeon has looked at me twice and says my pouch is fine. Has anyone had this type of pain after their surgery and if so how long does it last? I am so ready to be back to my regular self.

yes, yes, and YES! omg, i had so much anal pain it was like constantly throbbing and i could feel the staples and trauma!! if you think about what they did there, it's bound to hurt! They just stapled or sewed our small intestine on our anus, so it's ANGRY! i am 4 months out now, and that got better for me after like 2 months. might take less/more time for you, but that got better! time was best help. but baths, naps, and walking helped a little.

Shannah - Yes...it can be awful. Your surgeon is most likely right, the jpouch is probably structurally fine. Like FQ said, think about what happened down there...wowza! I am 16 weeks out from my 2nd surgery, the J-pouch creation, and I have one more week to go until my take-down surgery. I don't remember how much my bottom pain lasted, but here I am today and it's totally fine. Of all the meds I took post-surgery I stayed on Valium the longest because it seemed to help that pain more than anything.

Wow. I am new to this site and so thankful. I felt like I was the only one who had these symptoms. The dr never told me how much pain my butt would be in. I expected the abdominal pain but that doesn't even seem to be that great anymore. It is the annul pressure that makes you feel like you have to poop all day long that bothers me the most. I had no idea it would last so long. I am grateful to hear other people who have experienced the same thing I was afraid my jpouch was failing and my reversal may never happen.
