Does anyone else get mentally messed up when they have a blockage? I tend to experience the out-of-my-mindness that usually is associated with a fever, along with the pain and cramping.

I fear my surgery is now looming near. Two incisional hernias (ostomy site and umbilical) and tons of adhesions all over my small intestines, adhering them to my abdominal wall. My two surgeons do not seem anxious to rush this surgery, instead wanting to delay it as long as possible, because of how quickly and profusely I grow scar tissue. It is so bad that the surgeon who did a laproscopic gall bladder removal in 2009 said that is my last laproscopic surgery.

Any advice? I could use some positive thoughts, vibes, prayer, etc . . . I am scared.

Debra,
I understand why you are scared and nothing that anyone can say will really make it go away until this is all over. The 'mentally mess up' is probably a stress reaction to everything that you are going through and the fear of something going wrong...you have been through a lot recently and your doctors are not reassuring you about the upcoming date so it is adding stress on top of stress...if you feel up to it and ready then gently encourage them to fix the date so that you can get past this stage and move on...no matter how scary it may be the waiting, I find, is always worse.
No helpful hints or tricks...just prayers for you to be finished with all of this and go forward with your life...healthy and happy.
Hugs and warm thoughts

Anxiety? Sounds like what I used to get every time that I intubated when my valve was messed up...cold sweats, the 'whites', meaning just blanking out in pure, white fear (of not being able to get my tube in) and terror of it happening again...we all react differently...by the way, a blockage Can cause a fever...absolutely normal...and pain can cause a lot of symptoms too.
