I have been going through problems with abscesses lately. I've had 2 drained under sedation. The first one seemed healed but then created one more toward the vaginal area. When the surgeon checked it out that time, he left the vaginal area alone and opened up the original area again. He found a superficial fistula heading over to the abscess by the vagina so he installed a seton drain. I had the drain for about 4 weeks and everything was doing good and everything resolved I was taking at least two baths every day and using a sitz bath in between real baths, trying to keep it clean and soft so it could heal. It really seemed like it was. I had to leave for Florida for work all this week - leaving on Sat. Well, I started having frequency and urgency with blood in the stool. This is the first blood I've had since my colon was removed. My rearend is sore and I have bouts where I just cannot stay out of the bathroom. It is also painful to 'push'and try to go. I'm guessing that the abscess problem is obviously an issue but may also be causing cuffitis. Could this be it? Csn my WIscondin dr send a prescription to Florida for antibiotics? I took some Lomotil today and it helped but once it Wore off, I spent an hour on the toile two different times. As soon as I would try to get up, I'd have to sit right back down for another small amount to come out. I have also started having a very sore rearend abnd quite a bit of blood starting to tonight. What should I do? The urgency (I can barely make it when it hits) and the blood, make me thing this is cuffitis. Is it?

Any advice on what yo do would be great. I'm here for the week if you think of something.
On another note, there seems to be another abscess starting. This one is on the right side kind of by the Bartholin gland. It seems rather large when u touch it but I'm just not sure what to do. I won't be back home until end of the day on Friday.

.
Thank you.

I hate to say this, but you may need to go to the ER or urgent care before you get home. If you didn't have all this abscess stuff going on, I might assume the bleeding was from cuffitis. But, I am much less sure in your case. Can you call or email your surgeon for some urgent advice? That is what I would do before seeing a stranger.

I would get on the horn, like Jan said, with your home docs and let them know what's going on.

You're awfully complicated for some random ER, but do go if things progress! I have a small fistula, and sometimes there would be minor amounts of blood with it, but minor. Not like you're describing, though I've had some issues with urgency throughout my recent history, no blood. I'm on Humira right now to try to heal the fistula, and my seton is out at the moment to give it a chance.

Let us know how you get along! No advice but do get on the phone and call your doctor.

Thanks Jan and Rachel. I was up twice last night going to the bathroom and this morning it wasn't much better so I only ate a couple of bites for breakfast and took a Lomotil. I don't usually tske Lomotil because my dr doesn't want me to. The Lomotil kicked in right away and stopped the urgency. I took another Lomotil with lunch and only had a 1/2 sandwich for lunch. By the time my doctor's office called back, I had taken 2 Lomotil and had gone 6 hours without a BM. Since the Lomotil was slowing everything down, the nurse practitioner wasn't worried, she thought the bleeding was related to the abscess. (I had a seton that came out just over a week ago so she blamed it on that). I told her I didn't think that was it due to the urgency. I told her it felt just like a UC flare but she was pretty sure it wasn't since Lomotil was working. My dr was in surgery all day but she was going to check with him when she could and get back to me.

I had a light dinner and took another Lomotil with dinner. The good news is that I've had 2 BM's since dinner and no blood.

I have no idea what's going on. I was already scheduled for an abscess check/endoscopy EUA next Tuesday so I'm hoping I can make it home to IL and to my appt without any more trouble.

Thank you for the quick responses, I appreciate it. I will keep you posted.

At least now I'm not in a panic like I was last night since the bleeding has stopped.

Wendy,

Very good news. I am glad you could get in touch with your doctor's office. Always best if you can confer with someone who is familiar with your case. ERs just make sure you aren't critical and send you on your way. Thank goodness you brought lomotil with you, even though your doc does not like you to take it.

Hi, I havent been on this sight in many years. But Im having problems and not sure on what to do. I have bad pain in the anus area when I have a bm. I also have a lot of bleeding. I have been going on line and it sounds like I may have cuffitis [not sure]...Im trying to hold off on going to thr dr. until after the holidays. Does anyone know some home remidies that may help or is the Dr. the only way to get help?

Thanks Scott Im not sure if its fissures. Ive had my Jpouch for about 11 years but  Im stubborn and do not get it checked out when broblems come around. Ive been calling this pouchitis but the medication isnt working so Im about at the end of my ropes with it. Im not even sure what a fissure is. Money is an factor with me not going to the dr. just thought asking for help couldnt hurt.
