This is my second go round with my ileostomy in several years.I have had this one since late February. I use a Hollister convex tape collar appliance with a Coloplast Brava ring. I usually get 4-5 days per bag change. Last week i changed and had a very red sore patch directly under my ileostomy. Before applying the bag i shower, then i sprinkle Stomahesive powder arounf the stoma and red area and then dab on the barrier film wipes over top then apply my bag. I have done my last 3 bag changes after 2 full days just so i can apply more powder to try and heal this sore spot up. Its not working, its still very red and sore, not openly weeping yet , but not sure what to do since i have never had this issue. i called and left message with Cleveland Clinic ostomy dept but doubt i will hear back until monday now.. Anyone know of anything else I can try.? my bags are precut and fit pretty snug around the stoma so thats not the issue..

Pouchmarx, only because I just found relief for my sore butt today can I make suggestion to you... Order Ilex- product from UK, but found couple suppliers on Amazon and actually ordered from someone on ebay. It is a soft but thick cream, dries kind of waxy, and totally seals and protects the skin! It says it's for ostomies as well as fecal incontinence and more. I have been suffering with butt burn, and sores for months with cuffitis, and within 24 hours of applying this, I cannot believe how my skin has healed! From my experience with ileostomy for 6 months, I do recommend changing bag and convex plate every 2 days at least to make sure there is no leakage on skin. Also, dry real well with hair dryer on cool before applying. Stoma powder good too! Try to order some ASAP and I hope it brings you relief! I also ordered an aloe product for healing called Dermaide, from manufacturer in Chicago and it seemed to help a bit too. Recommended by plastic surgeon for areas difficult to heal. I do think the Ilex paste will protect the skin best though. Tubes are just 2 ounces so I ordered 2- wish I had ordered more! Good luck! Laurie

you might be allergic to the tape on the hollister wafer. Change more frequently for now. Also get some other wafers too try. Tape free. Even other manufacturers wafers. My skin couldn't tolerate any of the stuff with tape already on it.

another thing would be to try and figure out if you are getting a leak somewhere. So when you take the wafer off look at the underside of it and see if there is a particular zone that leaked.

also could be that brava ring bothering you. Thats pretty tough stuff. Switch to hollister adapt or eakin seal and see if that helps.
