My partial obstruction is gone! I got admitted on Tuesday and already felt better on Wednesday. I didn't drink or eat anything and tried walking a lot. Soon the swelling went down. I threw up once but didn't need the ng tube thank god. Today is Thursday and I feel good. I got my IV stopped today and ate solid food. My pouch study showed no obstruction but some swelling. I've been walking a lot and passing gas and having bowel movements. Food went down pretty well. Eating very slowly and small amounts. Low residue low fiber diet. The testing of my bowels seemed to do the trick. I'm hoping to be discharged some point tomorrow. The only thing I'm nervous about now is this happening again at home. I want to know what I can do if I start feeling crampy again to avoid coming back to the hospital. Will talk to surgeon in the am. I'm happy things are clearing up. :-)

hi I had the same problem both before and after takedown. Now that you have had a bowel obstruction you will know what your symptoms are as they develop - for me it is very loud bowel sounds and bloating and lack of output. After that it moves onto severe pain and nausea. As soon as you start feeling symptoms stop solid foods, increase fluids and take grape juice. (I keep some on hand at all times). I had a partial obstruction the day after I came home from the hospital when I was admitted for a full obstruction. I found the above worked and it cleared without going back.
