I'm not sure what is going on. I have been feeling not myself for about a month. Something is not right. I have no appetite and am afraid to eat. I was taking Cipro and Flagyl from a prescription from last year when I had pouchitits and had it refilled. Yet still the same.

I pass very little stool yet I have the urgency to go quite a bit. Not passing gas like I should either. But I feel with the urgency to go, a lot more should come out. I eat very little but most times when I eat, I have stomach discomfort.

In 1999, I had a major bowel obstruction and I had to have 32 inches of small bowel had to be removed. In 2006, I had an obstruction and was hospitalized for 5 days on an IV. Yet I knew from the second obstruction, I knew how the pain felt and this is not like that.

However, I can't help think I may have a partial obstruction. I see my doctor on June 27th. Its either an obstruction or pouchitis. Perhaps the meds I am on no longer take affect.

Any help or advice, of things I should or should not do that you can provide will be greatly appreicated

Probiotics do seem to help keep pouchitis at bay once the pouchitis is brought under control. (BTW - Toughenough is a female.) If you start probiotics and your doctor prescribes antibiotics, you shouldn't take the probiotics at the same time. If you take the antibiotic in the morning you should take the probiotic at least 3 hours before or after.

Good luck with your appointment.

Kathy,

Whoops. I hope I didn't offend her.

Thanks. I also didn't know about the drugs and Probatics of not taking them at the same time.

The health food store I go to said the Probatics, brand name is Ultimate Flora, has 50 Billion microorganisms. They even have one for Critcal Colon which is 80 Billion.

Not sure which one to buy. The one for the Colon I wish I knew about this 25 some odd years ago. Not sure if this is the one to buy since I do not have a Colon.

Any suggesstion? Which ones do most people buy?

thank you

Align is a commonly used probiotic taken by many on this site. Florastor is another. Both can be found at your local pharmacy or grocery store.

If you are willing to spend some money you can try VSL#3. You can click on their ad at the top of the screen for more information. You can also ask your doctor for a script of VSL#3DS which is a double stregnth version only avaiable by prescription. You would need to check with your insurance first to see if it is covered. There used to be a thread about how to work with your insurance. I have BCBS Horizon of New Jersey and they cover it.

Just a note on probiotics. Sometimes they can cause some gas in the beginning. After a few days your body will adjust. Start with small doses then work up.

Marianne,

There are other name brands out there, especially like the health food stores. I have never tried them myself but I am going to ask my doctor this evening when I see him.

I actually found some juice at my grocery store that includes Probiotics without milk or soy products which I cannot have. A court cost me $3.99.

I don't know if anyone has tried this type of treatment or take this supplement in a juice form.
