Hi guys!

Just a quick question, tomorrow marks two weeks since my k pouch installment, yet I'm still having quite a bit of abdominal pain. Is it suppose to hurt this long? The stool is flowing just fine, I'll still have the catheter in for two more weeks, I'm guessing once I can remove it, it will take some stress off my organs. I also had my rectum removed, and it hurts a lot, it's still seeping a bit of blood and what looks like a small amount of stool, but how could that be possible if my rectum is gone? It's super sensitive and hurts to sit. I'm wearing adult diapers to absorb the leakage, just don't know how long his will last, do you? I don't see Dr Cohen for my F/U for two weeks. What was your recovery like? Did you have any of these problems, and if so, what did you do about it? Thanks, much love,

Eric Eeker

Hi Eric...hang in there!!!!

I had my Kock Pouch done in 1978, and I think I was in the hospital for 3 weeks hooked up to a suction. They do things differently now. I do remember my butt taking a long time to heal though, in fact back then I was told it could take 1 year, but I'm sure that is different now too.

I hope you keep improving and things get better for you soon....xoxo

You are right on track. The bumm surgery is brutal in as itself. Having the constant cath starts making the valve and stoma very sore but you gotta do it. Once it's out it will still be sore as you have to empty often. As time goes on and you empty less, it all heals up and gets some rest and settles down. I still get very sore if I hitch up my constant cath for a few days if I'm sick with the flu.

It really takes a full 2 - 3 mos just to start the healing. The pouch maturing causes so much gas pain. But, all that gets better in time.

Keep walking walking walking, chewing your food and drinking fluids!

I was on 80 miligrams of Oxy and a fentalyn (sp) patch for about 2 months post op. I was down to maybe 10-20 mg by the 3rd. I had horrible pain up until 4 months, surgical that is. Just like all surgeries, every week it gets better then eventually we start to forget how bad it was.

My butt pain I think was the easiest to cope with and I had a donut pillow to sit on when I returned to work about 3 months post op.
