Newbie here, thanks for reading.
I've had my j-pouch for 9 months now and have developed multiple abscesses on both sides of my butt (lovely), one of which burst into a 2 inch x 6 inch open wound. I've been taking Cipro and doing multiple sitz baths but the darn thing shows no signs of closing and it's been like this for over a month.
I did go into the hospital to get IV antibiotics when the big abscess originally opened up; while I was there my j-pouch surgeon said, "Well, we'll just have to do seton drains and a temporary ostomy until this heals." I wasn't sure that was the best option, and my family and I discussed and decided against it because my pouch is actually working great--only 3 or 4 BMs a day--and I'm tired of being opened up over and over again.
My question is this: Has anyone had success with healing of a large, abscess-based open wound without the seton drains? I'm willing to take antibiotics until the cows come home, but I want my butt to stop looking like a nightmare. Oh, and it hurts.
Any advice is appreciated!
