I'm trying to go through IVF and in doing an ultrasound they found 2 hydrosalpinx on my left ovary and the doctor is concerned that the hydrosalpinx would wash out the baby when placed. Has anyone had this before or is this a FAP thing? Thanks in advance!

I had it in my right tube(my only viable one) and they had to opperate, open and clean out the tube and 'lay it flat open' to heal...he said that it would curl up and heal itself closed...then he put me on progeterone for 3 yrs to let my ovaries rest and the area heal up.
It was moderately successful.

3 years to heal with drugs? I hope this is not what is suggested fOr me. I don't have 3 years to get pregnant and I'm tired of having surgeries!
I do not know what the U.S. protocol is on this stuff but my doctor was batteling multiple ovarian cysts in me, salpangitis, scar tissue and endometriosis so he was a bit over cautious...I wasn't thrilled with the progesterone other than the obvious side effect of no more pain and no more period (and no PMS ) but I was not in a serious relationship and kids were not on my radar. That was also 18yrs ago so things have changed...but yes, post hydrosalpinx or salpangitis they really don't want you to get pregnant the next week...you may need to 'rest' for a while.

I was also diagnosed with bilateral Hydrosalpinx. A hydrosalpinx is associated with 50% lower implantation rate and 2 fold chance of miscarriage. They need to be treated.
For normal women, the standard is to remove the tubes. This will return your chances of getting pregnant with IVF to that of a normal woman. My doctor thought this surgery was too dangerous for me. There are a lot of studies out on the Essure device to treat hydrosalpinx. (Proximal tubal occlusion) I just had it done, and I am going for my 3 month confirmation test for it. Its off label usage for Essure, as it was created to be a non surgical sterilization procedure. I heard about it for the first time on this board about a year ago, and the women who had Essure to treat hydrosalpinx after a failed IVF became pregnant with twins after treating it!
There are options, and there is TONS of literature on the net. I had to educate the doctors, but they found it to be sound medically and had no objections to performing the procedure. Please feel free to PM me if you need more details. GOOD LUCK!

Arabella, I would love to hear more about your experience with Essure as this is what the IVF clinic in my town has recommended for me before trying IVF as I too have bilateral hydrosalpinx. I couldn't figure out how to PM you as I'm new to the site, so if you know how to PM and could give me more information I would appreciate it!

commandz, I have had my pouch since 1996, and have been trying for a baby since I married in 2004. I had 5 IVF transfers with no success, changed clinics and discovered I had bilateral hydrosalpinx. They were drained at egg collections, but not frozen transfers. In the end, the Dr said the last thing was surgery to disconnect the tubes (something he avoided due to higher complications/scar tissue etc)I'm pleased to let you know that I am currently 29 weeks pregnant! I wish you luck
Thanks Kelbelle, I can't imagine trying for 8 years for a baby! I'm having worry fits over just going through this once! But congratulations on your baby! What a joy! Keep your fingers crossed with me. I hope that my doctor will drain them and not have the major surgery...I'm kind of tired of surgeries!

Draining tends to be rather unhelpful, as the tubes can refill with water in 48 hrs. That will do you no good. The only nonsurgical option is Essure and its GREAT. Here is a lot of reading! Hope its helpful!

This is very interesting for the placement of the devices to preserve fertility:

Ok, so I have hydrosalphix I can't describe it, check out this link. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrosalpinx) on each side of either tubes. So it would of been hard for me to get pregnant on my own anyways. This could of been caused because of my last surgeries or not. The choices I have been given on the next steps is to have another surgery, open me up and close off the tubes or take them out, and we don't know about scaring around that area now. Or just go through IVF and hope and pray that it takes and they hydrosalpinx doesnt wash out the embyro. I really don't want to be cut again and go through another surgery so we are thinking just to go through the IVF and see what happens and hopefully it will stick and then if not hopefully we'll get enough FAP free eggs so we can freeze them and try again if necessary. There is a Laparoscopic surgery I could have and go through my small bowel and mess with that but since I don't have my large bowel they don't want to mess with the small one incase there is complications when I am doing great after all those surgeries. So....if this IVF doesn't work we just may be kid free, which is sad. But can't do much more.
Hello everyone
I m ashwini .I went through total colectomy and jpouch surgery in 2008.
We are trying to conceive for the past 6 months with no luck. Today I did n HSG test to see if my tubes were blocked.
And the results showed that my left tube has Hydrosapalinx. He couldnt say for sure if my right tube ie opened or blocked coz he wasn not abt to see the dye properly. I m very upset coz of this problem and need hope n support
One of my concerns is coz I have hydrosapalinx doc has asked me to do ESSURE procedure to block the left tube permanantely coz he thinks if the right ovary is gud n even if the egg is fertilized the fluid leaking from the left tube would not allow the embryo to implanant so it wld b difficult for me to get pregnant.
also I wanted to ask Is that procedure safe ? Could there be any complications during or after that procedure? could there be any complication later in years to come? is this the only way ? is there any other way to do this ?
Has anyone done this procedure before?
Thanks a lot..I need help in this ..I cannot talk abt this to anyone n feeling very low after the test today .
I m really confused about the procedure and dont want any more side effects from anything.
Thanks again looking fwd for ur opinions and recommendations

I just got told my fluid build up that everyone thought needed to be drained was this. I guess my tube and ovary needs to come out and I want it gone but my Gyno seems nervous about doing surgery on me with a different anatomy. I have read people have had hysterectomies through the vagina. Can't this be done similar? Anyone have surgery and do fine? I rather have this sucker yanked since it causes me pain. I am child-free and had a tubal and novasure in 2006 so I don't care if I keep ovaries and tubes.
Hydrosalphix is most likely from your surgeon damaging it during surgery or scar tissue. It is not a FAP thing though.
Just an update, even with the hyrdosalphix and IVF, I have gotten pregnant and 8 weeks along with no other surgery for the hydro's, so excited!
congratulations Commandz so Happy for you ..
wish you the best !
