I just had my reversal done last Tuesday, 8/21. The first couple days after surgery were real easy, mainly because I was on a liquid diet. Last night was one of the worst nights ever. I don't know why I thought I could get away with this so early (pretty sure its because I was hungry as hell), but I ate a gluten free cheese pizza from Domino's. I'm guessing I probably sharted over 30 times last night. I finally got so sick of going to the bathroom I just brought a roll of tp out to the living room and would shove tp in my crack so I wouldn't have to get up so much. Around 1:30 am, I went to Wal Mart and to some gas aid that did not help a bit. My stomach was making all kinds of noises and cramping like I've never felt. Then I would try and release some gas, which was usually a mix of gas and liquid. I would try and go to the bathroom and nothing would come out, but as soon as I got comfortable back on the couch, I get that gas pressure and I was back to sharting again. Now, I kind of expected this with all I've read about J Pouches, but I have never had such extreme gas pains. I didn't get to sleep until about 7:30am. just wanted to see if anyone else experiences this? I'm wondering if this is gas left over from surgery, or if this was all from the pizza. All I've eaten today was a banana, two vanilla pudding cups, a little tomatoe soup, and one piece of gluten free toast (I'm Celiac). I feel much better today, but am still getting these gas pains every once in a while. Anyone have suggestions of some good protein at this stage in the my J Pouch? I'm trying not to shrivel away all the years I've put building muscle in the gym, but I'm pretty scared to eat. Thanks for reading!

Sorry you're going through this! It's the first time you've had real solid food, so you would notice. I'm sure some of the gas was also everything that was still in there from surgery. When I had my colectomy, I had ileus. When my bowel finally woke up, I was astonished at what I expelled.

That said, pizza (though tasty) may not be the best choice so early on. Tomato sauce is pretty acidic, and I'd wager that it was actually the acid that caused a lot of your issues. You may want to stick to blander foods for the first little while.

Protein wise, chicken (not fried!)), canned tuna, cottage cheese, and scrambled eggs are good choices. I didn't really have an issue with any of those foods. They filled me up and were easy to digest. Try those before going back to the pizza. Smiler
