The last couple of days I have had a ton of soreness in my anus area, also toward the back of my male area is sore. I have been using a heating pad to help with the pain. I have been also been straining a lot when going to the bathroom it is not easy pass stool.
Today, I noticed blood on the tissue paper which freaks me out. I do not have much urgency nor have I noticed a tremendous increase in bowel movements however I am getting up a little more often at night due to pressure but not a big deal during the day.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what I might have going on?
Thanks

Could be any of those but I'm leaning toward a possible stricture only because you mentioned a pressure feeling and straining. When I was dealing with a stricture if felt like I had a bowling ball up my butt for lack of a better description. And because I had to strain to go, I sometimes would have some blood. Only way to find out is to go for a check up. An anal stricture is an easy fix but it usually requires several dilations.

Thanks Mariane, I think you may be right. I decided not to take any more bulking agents and the last two bowel movements I have not had to strain quite as much and did not see any blood. But I do have that exact feeling like a have a bowling ball in my rear it's very sore and unpleasant. What exactly is a stricture? And did you just notice blood on the tp and not in the toilet (my experience).

A stricture at the anastomostis site is scar tissue that has built up making the passage narrow. Your surgeon can dilated with his/her finger to break up the scar tissue. It hurts like heck for 10 seconds and then its done. And you will feel a lot better afterwards if that's what it is. Most times the scar tissue will form again and you will need to have it done again. Eventually it will stay open. And yes, the blood I saw would just be a little on the tp.

What you are explaining is the same thing I am feeling. I was worried that maybe it was cuffitis or fissures or something. The bowling ball description fits perfectly though! Marianne did it also hurt to sit sometimes with a stricture? Also did the pain occasionally go away and everything felt normal once in a while? That is what happens to me. Pressure, pain, hard to empty and a throbbing feeling sometimes. Occasionally though after emptying and walking around it feels like the pressure and pain goes away for a bit but when it comes time to have a BM again it comes back. Also if I am walking a lot and having to bend down or climb anything the pressure and pain get irritated. I'm thinking I may have a structure also. My doctor did say things were a little narrow when he did my takedown but he dialated it at that time with his finger.

Kline84,

Yes, I would have discomfort sitting sometimes and yes too that the symptoms would come and go. Sounds like a stricture to me.

New2thisstuff,

Unfortunately theses surgeons never fill us in on everything beforehand. Call and make an appt to get it checked out in case you have a stricture. While its a pain in the butt, (pun intended!) it's an easy fix.

i had a stricture and abscess and felt like i was trying to poop out a boat! definitely lots of straining and going back to the bathroom every 15 minutes because i couldn't empty properly/completely.

I had a couple in-office dilations so far that helped a lot. i read about "stuff that could go wrong" on this board. my doc never went through the laundry list of complications. maybe because: he didn't want to scare me, he thought even if i had such complications he could fix them "easily", and he thought the chances were not that high to cover them in detail. the only complication he mentioned was pouchitis. of course, i wound up with a lot of complications! but most of them are treatable. the first few months are quite difficult as your body adjusts and recovers from the surgery.

I have had several dilation for my stricture and the narrowing is happening again. The last time I was dilated, they had to put me under, which was a month ago. Do you think they would have to do that again? The stricture is driving me crazy because of the pressure and plus I have a rectal/vaginal fistula. The more I strain, the more stuff comes out of the wrong spot.

Does anyone have tips on the self, digital dilation?

And on a different note, the anal itch was getting to me as well. My new doc has recommended Calmospeptine ointment. It is really helping to sooth things down under.

I was recently told I had a stricture after having a scope so it's been very interesting and helpful reading everyone's comments. Those of you who have had strictures does less come out each time and you have to strain a lot? Also, do you have a harder time sleeping at night because you need to go more often and there is leakage? I seem to be better during the day than at night. Is it normal to get more open bloody sores in the anus area because of all of this and does anything help more than calmoseptine? Thank so much.
