Hello everyone
I m ashwini .I went through total colectomy and jpouch surgery in 2008.
We are trying to conceive for the past 6 months with no luck. Today I did n HSG test to see if my tubes were blocked.
And the results showed that my left tube has Hydrosapalinx. He couldnt say for sure if my right tube ie opened or blocked coz he wasn not abt to see the dye properly. I m very upset coz of this problem and need hope n support
One of my concerns is coz I have hydrosapalinx doc has asked me to do ESSURE procedure to block the left tube permanantely coz he thinks if the right ovary is gud n even if the egg is fertilized the fluid leaking from the left tube would not allow the embryo to implanant so it wld b difficult for me to get pregnant.
also I wanted to ask Is that procedure safe ? Could there be any complications during or after that procedure? could there be any complication later in years to come? is this the only way ? is there any other way to do this ?
Has anyone done this procedure before?
Thanks a lot..I need help in this ..I cannot talk abt this to anyone n feeling very low after the test today .
I m really confused about the procedure and dont want any more side effects from anything.
Thanks again looking fwd for ur opinions and recommendations

I went to see my IVF doctor today and he told me about ESSURE as well. My right tube is filled with fluid (hydrosalpinx) and he said if I didn’t take care of it, it cuts the chances of conceiving in half. I have too much scar tissue, so laparoscopic surgery isn’t an option for me. I have never heard of ESSURE until today so I haven’t done much research, but what I have done shows that by blocking the fluid from going into the uterus, your chances of conceiving via IVF go back to the percentage of someone with no hydrosalpinx. There was also a study done that showed that someone who had only one blocked tube had a significantly high percentage of conceiving naturally from the tube that was open after the hydrosalpinx was taken care of. On the down side, there are blogs where women are talking about having pain, and/or infections from the coils used in the ESSURE procedure. Some women also complain of weight gain, although I’m not sure how or if this is related to the coils. The coils are made of nickel, so if an individual is allergic to nickel, then ESSURE probably wouldn’t be an option for them.

The only other ways I know of dealing with a hydrosalpinx would be to have laparoscopic surgery to either remove the tube, or cut and cauterize the tube. However if you have severe adhesions from previous surgeries, this could put you at greater risk for bowel perforation leading to a permanent ostomy. Some physicians say they can aspirate the fluid from the tube as well, but this is only temporary because the fluid will come back.

I hope this info helps some. Keep your head up and don't be so hard on yourself. I know it's easier said than done, but lucky for us technology has come a long way for people needing assistance with fertility. Don't give up hope. Smiler

Here in France my surgeon did an 'opacifcation' of the tube and slit it open and uncurled it (cleaned it out)...and allowed it to heal that way...it gave me a better chance of having my tube heal properly and return to its normal function...he also put me on progesterone to stop my periods during the healing process...any form or copper coil, IUD or other form of implanted product was discouraged due to our problems of adhesions, infections etc...they did manage to save my tube that way...

Thanks a lot Lemon and skn69
I am still thinking abt which way to go...but for some reason essure scares me. I dont have a good feeling abt it since there are no long term studies available
But again laproscopy is also a big risk. I met my colorectal surgeon and he said he will talk to my gynac to discuss how to perform the surgery if needed. colorectal surgeon was in hurry since he had to leave for an emergency surgery. so we cldnt discuss all the options properly.
so now i hv to wait till the two hv talked. Frowner
there will b scarring according to colorectal surgeon since i hv hydro n tube is blocked at distal end but he wont know how much till he goes in. m hoping for best and praying tht everythg will work out ok in the end.fingers crossed .

I had the essure placement about a month ago and so far so good. My MD also was VERY hesitant to do yet another surgery to remove my tubes, so he strongly encouraged this as the best option if I wanted to move forward with IVF. I will go back in December to see if the tubes are fully blocked, then move forward with IVF! I'm waiting until March or April for IVF as I'm a candidate for a New York State grant to help with the costs (health insurance covers $0!!!) and March is when I find out if I've gotten the grant or not. I will keep everyone updated about the outcomes, but if anyone has any questions about the essure procedure or anything, let me know and I can try to help!

My doctor would not do IVF until i had the essure procedure done because of the same reasons you said, toxic fluid leaking down and preventing implantation of the embryo. I had it done in the office under light sedation, took all of 10 min. I had bilateral hydrosalpinx. I went ahead with my IVF and had successful pregnancy on the 3rd try. Had twins 8/1/11 Big Grin I also had a MRI recently and they said the Essure were no problem for that, which it wasnt. Good luck to you!!!!!

Thats very encouraging beth156 and Ingrid .
Many Congratulations to you Ingrid ...happy parenting Smiler
its good to know that essure has worked for you guys.
did you guys have any side effects ? Are you periods normal or more painful after the procedure ? do you have backaches..? can you feel the coils inside ?
Also during pregnancy can the coils hanging in the uterus hurt the baby ?
if the area where the coils are located get pressed or pushed does it hurt and can tht cause the coil to move or perforate ?
I know I do sound a lil paranoid..Frowner I had hoped that somehow after gojng thru jpouch surgery, total hip replacement ,total knee replacement , avn of left wrist n left ankle..at least this part would come easy .
now i m just scared of both the options . because of side effects of steroids i lost my hip n knee joint n have osteoporosis and avn and dont want side effects from anu more stuff cause new problems.
But I also want to have a baby...atleast one if not more...
so i will have to make a decision .
thanks a lot for all the support n feedback.

beth 156 wish you all the luck for the ivf..n hope to hear gud news soon Smiler keep us posted !
