Hi, I was wondering what some of you who still get periods with troublesome pouches eat to make them behave better during that time of the month? Mine seems to be really acting up since starting my period so I wanted to see if there's any particular foods you guys stick to during these times.

Ah the good ole days (NOT!)... I basically would increase my Imodium during my period.
One of the great things about menopause is that little hassle has been removed from my life. Don't miss it!

I already take 8 immodium (on a schedule)... can't take more than that, right?
Comfort foods like rice or mashed potatoes with olive oil, peanut butter, dark chocolate, very little protien (my pouch would be bubbly and run like water during PMS and periods so I needed to dial down anything that would aggravate it including all dairy, veggies or fruits and spices or beans)...
Whole grain toast worked well with tomato soup and bananas (famous peanut butter and banana sandwiches were my faves)...I found that my pouch would bleed more during periods too as if the mucosa had a period too...gums too but that was just me.

My pouch go crazy as well. It feels like obstruction with diarrea on top. Not nice.
Every time it happens my gi's are getting their tools ready, thinking
it is an obstruction they need to fix, but usually it goes away after some days. I hope it does this time as well (on the couch with pains right now).
I try to eat whatever I feel like because it is usually the right answer. For example I have the best strawberries in my fridge right now, but I really do not feel like eating them now that my pouch is acting up.

kblgal,
i was just reading that you normally take 8 immodium a day. i think many people with pouches take a lot of immodium, but i was just curious what your frequency is like on that much? what is your frequency like if you don't take any? a bit off your topic, but this was intriguing to me as i only take 1 a day at bedtime. thanks :-)
to your original topic though, i try to avoid gassy foods during that time of the month. i already feel bad enough, i don't need to add to the discomfort.

Well, I'm only a little over a month post-takedown so I'm not sure if I answer is relevant since it could change... but I still have to use the bathroom every, maybe 1.5 hrs? Obviously shorter time frame if I've just eaten. I don't know if that's normal or not. Without the immodium, I just have a constant feeling of urgency - well, worse than it is right now, lol. Though during my period, I get cramped up so I don't have the feeling of urgency as much.
I've noticed most people on here just take 1 or 2 immodium. I think what happened to me is that I've been taking it for so many years that I got "immune" to it, which I didn't realize could happen with this stuff. When I first started taking immodium like 8 years ago before my UC diagnosis, I only needed a couple. When my UC started getting really bad before deciding I needed surgery, that's when I started taking 8 bc a lesser dose wasn't helping me get through a full-time job (I was also on a high dose of Prednisone.)
I do NOT recommend this approach. I only did it to get me through work before surgery but I could've permanently messed up my liver! Now I know it's really only healthy to take 2 at a time. I hope I'll be able to take less or get rid of it all together eventually.

Im with Sharon on this. I am also gluten free, which has helped a lot. I try to keep it super basic. No complex foods!! Put the cookies down, they wont help! I swear
I hate having a pouch & a period!! During that time of the month. I found that a heating pad helps me and eating a BRATs diet. But sometimes it just stinks being a women. Thanks for asking this question. I'm only 2 months post takedown and was wondering if the periods get any easier!?! Thanks
