Hey Pouchers,

I haven't posted in a long while, but this month marks 3 years since my take-down surgery, so I thought I'd check back in with the forum and say hello. Recovery from take-down was tough in the beginning, but I'm happy to say that everything is working well -- for the last couple of years I've traveled, participated in some fundraising events for Crohns'/Colitis through a project called Gutsy Chick, survived a nasty episode of food poisoning (soooo much worse with a jpouch!), and I've been back at work performing as an actor and musician (I'm the lead singer of a Toronto-area top 40 band) -- something I was very worried about when I was going through my surgeries. I generally eat what I want, although I finally saw a nutritionist last summer to help me make sure I'm getting the most out of my food -- I got a Nutri-Bullet and it's great for making healthy protein drinks when I'm in a hurry. I sometimes have the opportunity to talk with people and answer questions about surgery and while the procedure is daunting and difficult, I offer my situation as proof of a successful outcome. Please stay positive and look after yourselves and if you are thriving post surgery, I'd love to hear your story (I've been collecting patients' stories of encouragement on and off for the last couple of years and posting them to my web site.) If you want to share, you can reply to this post or send me a private message. Smiler

Thanks and take care,
B

This is really great news! So helpful of you to return and tell all of us how well you are doing. I think the key to success is accepting that life with a j-pouch is different, and also accepting the notion that you may have to adapt and/or change in order to feel your best. I do not consider it giving in or giving up, but being a realist and choosing to be happy.

I consider myself a success, but I doubt my story is anything you'd want to share as a success. It is riddled with complications, medications, and trade-offs. But, I love my life and love my j-pouch! I am so happy it was available when I needed it.

Glad to hear you are doing well. Smiler

My journey with the J pouch has been a total success. I had severe pancolitis and I tried every drug out there. Diets too and even acupuncture. One morning I woke up and I knew I couldn't go on another day living like I was. Or should I say not living. This procedure has been a God send and I don't take a minute of it for granted. The J pouch has its quirks but it's better than UC a million times over.

Continued good health to you Smiler
