Hello everyone. I have had chronic pouchitis since my takedown in March of 2012 but I am on augmentin and I was on a very small dose until I upped it a little recently. I was doing so well that we decided to get pregnant. Yay!

I am 29 weeks pregnant and about once a week for the last four weeks I have had a day or night that I have pretty bad abdominal pain followed by at least a day of diarrhea and then I'm slowly able to add regular food, not just liquids. Opinions? I'm thinking the baby might be squishing something in there and causing a partial blockage so when I eat it takes a few days to build back up and then I have a problem again. I'm going to see my GI surgeon next Monday just to talk to him about it. I've called in a couple of times but I'm not really sure there is anything he can do. Also, I'm wondering if I'm eating too much because it seems like the episodes happen after I feel pretty full at night. I just like to eat! Smiler The nurse also mentioned today that the baby could be putting pressure on my pouch which can cause problems. I'd love to hear any similar stories and advice.

I think it sounds like a partial obstruction. They are more common when you are pregnant. When you feel it coming on, just be sure to keep pushing liquids. My general rule is that if I start to feel full or nauseous then to stop eating and do liquids only. If I'm feeling a pain but still feeling hungry and not bloated, I will continue eating but pushing a lot more liquids. Since my obstructions in December, this has been working for me. Just follow what your body is telling you. Small, frequent meals will also be a preventive measure. you should avoid large meals especially before bedtime.
