Reply to "sodium butyrate"

Hi Sara, as I might have been the trigger for this thread, I'd like to tell my experiences so far.

I took sodium butyrate more than 10 years ago for several weeks to treat my chronic pouchitis. I managed to abandon budesonide during that time (which always resulted in increased inflammation when I tried reducing it before). I took the butyrate as an oral supplement most of the time, the recommended serving of 3x2 capsules a day with 600 mg of butyric acid per capsule.

I used it only on few occasions to do an enema, mixing the powder of 3 capsules with 100...200 ml of water.

I got some kind of stomach flu back then, and afterwards the positive effect of taking that supplement was almost gone.

I started a treatment two times in the years afterwards, but I didn't see the significant effect as at the first time. Right now I'm trying again after reading the thread about warm water enemas. But it's too early to tell if it makes a change. I'll report on that later.
