Wow Ray that is really freaky how you can handle the egg white but not the yolk just like me.I also get horrendous butt burn when I forget to take the yellow out of my eggs.

Ray,

I was forced to go to a perm ileo last June (2007).
You can check my post-I am very active like many others here.
The 'guru' Jason, went back to work as a State Trooper with a perm ileo-gunbelt and all
I work out daily, do Tae Bo, etc
Just back from a cruise where I swam with dolphins and tried rock climbing.

For breakfast, I also eat eggs every day-Doc has me on a hi-protein diet (I have low cholesterol).
I mix 1/2 cup of rice with 3 eggs for a frittata-slows things down and tasty.
Marshmallows, rice cakes (lots of good flavors), sourdough bread, etc are all good 'thickeners'.
The stool from my 'ileo' is often thick sludge.

When coaching, I take 2 apple pectin capsules to further thicken my output-works great.
I keep 2 small ziplocks sandwich bags in my pocket for quick emptying.

I say go back to work as an electrician and backpack
Good luck!

Hallo from Sydney, Hoping for some advice following removal of my jpouch and permanent ileostomy.

The surgeon told me he had to remove 34cms (a bit over a foot) of my small intestine overall in the pouch removal surgery. I'm wondering if this has led to nutritional issues because I've never felt right since that last surgery (and I never felt better than after the initial colectomy and during the period before the reversal surgeries.)

During the jpouch period I lost about 12 kilos (I think that's about 2 stone or a bit less) and became anaemic. I'm still a bit low in iron though it's improving, but my hair keeps falling out, my skin is dry, the roof of my mouth is sore and feels scalded - and I just don't seem to be able to get on top of these things even though about 18 months has now passed.

Just wondering if anyone else with jpouch excised and a perm. ileostomy has had any issues, nutritional or otherwise. Any advice about supplements, or anything else? I can't seem to get clear directions on iron supplementation, how often to take iron pills etc. I feel something must be wrong because there's such a difference in my health these days. I guess these things sound trivial but they're getting me down, it's so disappointing.

A good all around vitamin is Forvia chewables.
www.Forvia.com

I take two of those per day. Also, a probiotic, DanActive once per day. It is sold right next to the yogurts in most grocery stores.

There are various iron pills out there. Ask you doc what might be best for you to try.

Hope things go better for you!

Thanks, Bodoni. I'll look into those things. The probiotic - I didn't know this was necessary once you've lost your colon and pouch???
