I've heard a lot about GI's and Surgeons at NYC, but it looks like going to the Cleveland Clinic for surgery might be the better way to go for me. Any information on GI's and/or Surgeons would be great, thanks.

NONE :-)

Step 1 of a 3-step surgery was May 1st...no hurry to get the 2nd and 3rd done though...I'm enjoying life way too much right now!

Hi Mandy,

My GI Dr. at the CC was Dr. Bo Shen. Though I only saw him twice before moving over to my surgeon, he was very good and spent a lot of time with me. My surgeon was Dr. Ian Lavery who was also very good. I think you can't go wrong with the Dr.'s at the Cleveland Clinic.

I suspect there are great doctors in NYC (especially at Mt. Sinai where decades ago I was treated by Dr. Daniel Present), but as far as the Cleveland Clinic is concerned, I do have experience in that I've had 2 surgeries there and was also hospitalized another time under the care of their GI's. I believe Dr. B. Lashner is the head of the gastroenterology dept and he is well known. One appointment with him led me to believe I might work better with another doctor and was later admitted by Dr. Aaron Brzezinski who was thorough, gentle and very caring. Can't say enough good things about Brzenzinski.

Under CC care I bounced back from my 3rd episode of acute renal failure brought on by a Crohn's flare in my K-pouch and haven't had that particular problem in the 3 years since.

Good luck with your choice.

Carol

p.s. I was originally diagnosed with UC too, but it turned out to be Crohn's.

I was lucky to have Dr Fazio perform 2 of my intestinal surgeries at the Clinic and also a wonderful general surgeon, Dr. Matt Walsh, removed by gall blader there. Both of these surgeons were talented and responsive.

Lynnesa...

Was Dr.Brzezinski helpful in referring you to surgeons or did you do all that on your own? My whole thing now is to find a good G.I. to give me their honest opinions about surgeons. What else can you tell me about Brzezinski and Fazio? Anything is appreciated :-D

Dr Bo Shen is my GI and Dr Fazio my surgeon. They work very well together. Dr Shen is very informative and if you become his patient, he is always accessible and responsive via email. Jack's Tracks
