I know this has been covered before but I had difficulty finding some of the threads. I will be starting fiber supplements tommorrow and was wondering how to do it. I do have that awesome psyllium cracker recipe that has been floating on the boards but I thought i'd start out with some metamucil. Should I get the powder of the wafers? And I want to take things slowly so what dose should I take the fiber in, simply the recommended dose on the back, less, more? Thank you!

I agree that the wafers work best. However, I started with two with about 8oz of water twice a day in between meals. I prefer the apple over the cinnamon.
Good Luck!

You might see if eating the fiber with the meals produces better results than in between. I guess it depends on how long you wait to eat the fiber whether it gets mixed with the food or not (which is what you want).

And while others like the wafers, no fiber but soluble, as in Benefiber, worked for me. I take two three times per day 10 mins prior to meals, and continue on this regimen even though I've had to give up my j for a permanent ileo. I used the Benefiber for about 18 months prior to my ileo, and it was suggested by a dietician at UCSF when other insoluble fiber did nothing to slow me. Hope you sort out what's best for you - just experiment until you discover what's effective: none of it will hurt you, but some is bound to work better than the rest.
